From UFOs, to large hairy monsters, John Keel chased them all half way around the world.
An Interview by Timothy Green Beckley

From the upper Mile, to the lower Ganges and the Roof of the World in Tibet, to remote country villages in West Virginia and Kentucky, John A. Keel traveled extensively in his unending search for the strange, the mysterious, the unexplainable. He has been in over 40 countries and has lived in Paris, Baghdad, Cairo, Calcutta, Barcelona, Hollywood, New Orleans and a thousand exotic places in between. For many years, he wrote a syndicated newspaper column which appeared in major dailies throughout the world and his countless magazine articles appeared in nearly every leading periodical. His monthly column “Modern Mysteries” appeared in SAGA magazine for ten years. He was editor and publisher of ANOMALY, a newsletter devoted to scientific mysteries, and served on the Board of Directors of the Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained (S.I.T.U.), founded by Ivan T. Sanderson. He was also the editor of the Society’s journal, Pursuit.
In the 1950s, Mr. Keel worked for the Department of the Army as Chief of Continuity and Production for the American Forces Network (AFN) in Frankfurt, Germany, the world’s largest radio network. In 1952, he wrote and produced a radio program, Things in the Sky, about unidentified flying objects which was heard by millions throughout Europe and very favorably received. He also wrote and produced broadcasts from the original castle of Frankenstein in Germany, and from the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.
An accomplished lexicographer, he had been science editor of Funk & Wagnalls’ encyclopedias and geography editor of the Funk & Wagnalls College Dictionary. It was Mr. Keel who inserted the first definition of the “abominable snowman” and “flying saucers” into the dictionary and thus into formal acceptance by the scholarly community.
Mr. Keel had also been active in television, serving as head writer on programs starring Merv Griffin, Robert G. Lewis, Gene Rayburn, and others. He was employed by Goodson & Todman Productions for a number of years and also was head writer for station WPIX in New York. Author of several screenplays, he wrote 200 slapstick comedies for Trans-Lux and had worked on numerous television situation comedies. His humorous novel, The Fickle Finger of Fate, published in 1966, sold 800,000 copies.
In the early 1970s, Mr. Keel became a special consultant to the Federal Government, carrying out assignments for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, the Bureau of Radiology and the Air Force office of Technical Research.
A regular on many radio and television talk shows, Mr. Keel appeared with Johnny Carson, Jack Paar, Hugh Downs, David Letterman, Long John Nebel, Barry Farber and many others. He also lectured widely and received two honorary Ph.D.’s for his work in herpetology and archaeology. He is well-known in many different fields. For example, he once wrote a column for U.S. Camera magazine and was regarded as a leading expert in 8mm sound filming. Among magicians he was known as the inventor of many ingenious magic tricks and an outstanding commentator on the psychology of magic. In religious circles, he had been labeled “the world’s greatest theologian” and his books are widely quoted by religious writers and evangelists. In Europe, he has been the subject of much controversy and many books have been written about him, such as the ever popular book The Dark Gods by the British authors Anthony Roberts and Geoff Filbertson. The Interview:
Timothy Green Beckley: Tell us John. What happened to your beard?
John A. Keel: Ha! I see this is going to be one of those in-depth, highly personal interviews. I shaved off the beard many years ago…but a lot of pictures were taken of me in the 1960’s when I still had it. And those pictures are still appearing in print. So everyone assumes I’m bearded. I’m not. I’m old, fat and balding. People are always disappointed when they meet me. They expect Cary Grant…with a beard. And they get Ernest Borgnine.
TGB: Back in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, you were one of the most prominent and most visible ufologists in the world. Then suddenly there was silence. You disappeared. There were rumors that the government had silenced you, or that the notorious Men in Black had gotten to you. What happened?
JAK: I’m afraid the explanation is very mundane. I felt my work with UFOs was finished. I moved on to other things. And, unfortunately, I had some major health problems which curtailed my activities somewhat. I’ve suffered from hypoglycemia…low blood sugar…all my life, and I had tuberculosis, even appendicitis. Want to hear about my operation?
TGB: Uhhh…maybe some other time, John. Tell us about how you first became interested in Fortean matters…the weird and the unusual.
JAK: I grew up on a farm outside Buffalo, N.Y. so I was surrounded by all kinds of animals from the beginning. Our neighbor on the next farm used to go out and catch rattlesnakes and sell them. I went with him and that was how I first became interested in reptiles…herpetology. I devoured books by Raymond Ditmars, the great snake authority, and so on.
When I was around ten years old, that would be 1940, people on a back road near our farm began seeing a very tall, hair covered creature. They thought it was a gorilla of some kind. It scared several people badly and the farmers all went out with shotguns to track it down. Of course, they never found it. But that was my introduction to Bigfoot. Nobody knew about Bigfoot then. Ivan Sanderson, the zoologist, wouldn’t publish his studies until ten or fifteen years later.
TGB: So you became a believer in the abominable snowman-type creature at an early age?
JAK: Please. Belief never entered into it. I knew some of the witnesses. I accepted their stories. I accepted the fact that a giant “gorilla” was on the loose. You know, I also saw my first UFO when I was very young. I was about seven. We were driving outside a little town called Canseraga, N.Y. one night when we saw a huge, brilliantly illuminated sphere on top of a nearby hill. My stepfather stopped the car and we watched it. At first, we thought it was a barn burning or something. Then it slowly took off, rose straight up a short distance, and shot out of sight. This thing was burned into my memory. I never forgot it. But many years later I asked my parents about it and they had absolutely no memory of the episode whatsoever.
TGB: That would be in 1937.
JAK: That’s right. 1937 was a strange year. There were floods and earthquakes in New York state. And some very weird meteorological phenomena. Years later, when I was sifting old newspapers for UFO reports I came across several. And even back then, back in 1937, the New York Times was explaining away the sightings. Something chased a railroad train across the Midwest and the Times said it was the planet Venus.
TGB: You’re saying it wasn’t?
JAK: I’ll tell you a secret. Venus doesn’t really exist. There never was a planet Venus. The astronomers made it up…just like they make up things like Black Holes. Did you ever really think about the Black Hole theory? Since a Black Hole can’t give off or reflect light, we will never know if they exist or not. So the theorists are perfectly safe. Their theory can never be proven or disproven. I’m afraid Charles Fort was right. Astronomy is 90% bullshit. Each new generation of astronomers throws out all the beloved theories of the previous generation. Fort suggested that all the stars are actually hanging from strings on a velvet backdrop. He was probably just as accurate as the guys who dreamed up the Black Holes. Or the ones who invented Venus so they would have a convenient explanation for UFOs that chase trains.
TGB: Do we trace a little note of cynicism here?
JAK: We Forteans are a cynical lot. The anti-UFO factions never quite understood us. We are ten times more skeptical than the so-called professional skeptics, but we are willing to examine the evidence. They aren’t.
For example, in my book STRANGE MUTANTS I tell the story of a man who was riding horseback in Ohio when a giant snake suddenly attacked him, bit him in the foot and crippled him. When I did an article on this case, the snake experts told me there was no such snake in Ohio…or anywhere else. But the man’s wife happened to see my article and she wrote to me in detail about what he had suffered since. He’s crippled to this day. And the symptoms she described and all, are unknown to herpetology! We don’t know what kind of snake it was. We’ll never know. But we have the evidence…the poor house and the man’s foot. If any snake expert wants to interview these people, he could learn a lot. But the experts in any subject are usually most reluctant to investigate anything firsthand.
TGB: Like the college professor who said the people in West Virginia were seeing a Sandhill Crane?
JAK: Exactly. Back in the 1960’s hundreds of people saw a huge winged, human-shaped creature. It chased cars. That college professor never went near West Virginia. I did. And I carried a picture of a Sandhill Crane with me. When I showed it to the witnesses they laughed. No way could they have mistaken an ordinary bird for a six-foot tall monster.
TGB: That was the famous Mothman?
JAK: Yes. Some newspapermen came up with that name for it. The Batman TV series was very popular at that time. But the Mothman episodes were a major breakthrough in my research. I outline it in STRANGE MUTANTS.
TGB: What kind of breakthrough?
JAK: I really can’t summarize it in an interview. You have to read the book.
TGB: Suppose I don’t want to shell out $9.95 for the book?
JAK: That’s tough, then. You’ll just have to spend the rest of your life wallowing in ignorance.
TGB: Actually, we have read the book. You cover a lot of subjects…ten-foot-long earthworms…
JAK: They’re found in Australia.
TGB: Vampire bats.
JAK: One of my favorite subjects. Did you know that bats can’t land? If one touches the ground it has a helluva time getting airborne again. That’s why they land upside down on tree limbs or in caves on rock formations. They hang upside down and when they want to depart they just let themselves drop. This gives them sufficient airspeed to start flying. The Air Force released some bats in a room strung with wires once…and they were able to fly in and out and around the wires with great ease in the dark. They use a kind of radar. That little experiment cost the American taxpayer some big bucks. I once met the Air Force officer who was in charge of it. He could talk about bats for hours. And he did! But my favorite military experiment was something the Navy did a few years back. They spent over $200,000 to find out why a frisbee flies. I think they had some cockamaney notion of attaching a grenade to a frisbee.
TGB: You seem well informed on government experiments of all kinds.
JAK: I was consulting at H.E.W. when they hired a company to find out why children fall off the tricycles. They spent $25,000 to rediscover the law of gravity!
TGB: Do you think the government spends any money on UFOs or Mothmen?
JAK: First of all, the government does not spend money. It throws money away! In the 1950’s, General Twining of the Air Force said publicly that the Air Force was then spending one million dollars a year on the UFO “problem.” But as near as I could find out, and remember I was investigating from inside the government, no one in the Air Force…or any other branch…knows anything about UFOs, cares anything about UFOs, and certainly spends no time investigating the subject. In the 1960’s, a civilian secretary was in charge of the UFO desk at the Pentagon. She was paid around $7,000 a year to cut out newspaper clippings. When IDA [Institutes of Defense Analysis] decided to hire some university to investigate UFOs, they were turned down by Columbia, M.I.T. and other big, prestigious universities because they weren’t offering enough money. Only $300,000. Finally, Colorado U. accepted the assignment and I predicted they would get the Air Force to double the grant before they were through. And they did. Everyone knows what happened to that Colorado UFO project. It was a total debacle. Once again the Defense Dept. engaged the U.S. taxpayer in sexual intercourse.
TGB: You mentioned IDA. What’s that?
JAK: Another boondoggle. They have their own building near the Pentagon. They’re funded by the National Security Agency. In the 1960’s, the UFO mess was turned over to them. They made most of the decisions, not the Air Force. The drones in IDA spend most of their time playing war games with computers.
TGB: Based on your experiences, does anybody in government do anything?
JAK: In Washington, the rush hour starts at 3 p.m. People arrive at their offices around 9 a.m., drink coffee until 11, then plan where they’re going for lunch. They return from lunch around 2:30 and then get ready for the 3 p.m. rush hour. The only people who really work are the peons…the lowest salaried employees. They come to work at about 8 a.m. and leave at 5. They’re not even allowed to make private phone calls. They work in jobs like payroll, or running other benefits and services for the other employees. If an outsider…a taxpayer…shows up asking for some service, they are thrown into total confusion. When I was at H.E.W. they had 105,000 people on the payroll, most of them doing nothing. They were trying to cut back then. Today they have 150,000 on the payroll, doing even less. Ronnie Reagan promised to cut back…so I suppose in a year or two there will be 200,000 doing nothing.
TGB: Washington, D.C., is certainly a long way from Tibet. Weren’t you the last American to enter Tibet before the Chinese invaded?
JAK: Yes. That was back in the 1950’s. Things are more relaxed in the 1980’s and some Americans have been allowed in, in recent years.
TGB: What was the Tibet like?
JAK: Bleak and cold. Sort of like my New York apartment. I was looking for the famous Abominable Snowman. I did see a tall, furry animal on the other side of a lake and the lamas with me said it was an ABSM. But it could have been a bear.
TGB: So you never caught up with the Abominable Snowman?
JAK: Or he never caught up with me. I’ve also chased Bigfoot here in USA. You know, they’ve been seen only a few miles outside of New York City, in New Jersey. In STRANGE MUTANTS I catalog quite a few sightings and list the characteristics they have in common…like the noises they make, the terrible odors they give off, their general behavior. They’re really an unpleasant lot.
TGB: I see you also have a chapter on something called “Bedroom Invaders.” What’s that?
JAK: That’s a puzzling form of psychic phenomena. People wake up in the middle of the night and find they are paralyzed…unable to move. They feel…even see…another presence in the room. Sometimes they are sexually assaulted by these entities. I’ve come across many instances of this in my investigations. In New England, it is known as “the old hag.” For some reason, many UFO witnesses, contactees in particular, suffer visitations of this sort after a UFO episode. It is one of the many factors that suggest there is a very close-tie in between UFO manifestations and psychic phenomena.
TGB: You were a pioneer in observing that tie-in. Now, today, people like Dr. Berthold Schwarz, the famous psychiatrist, Dr. Jacques Vallee and even Dr. J. Allen Hynek, seem to have jumped onto your bandwagon.
JAK: That’s right. When I first expressed my views in books like Operation Trojan Horse and Our Haunted Planet, I was met with quite a bit of opposition. Then investigators around the world began to use my methods and check out my material. Now all of the leaders in the field agree that psychic phenomena are closely linked with UFOs and that even some of our mysterious monsters are products of that psychic world. But for years, people like Hynek and Vallee fought my concepts.
TGB: So you’ve triumphed in the end. How does it feel?
JAK: It’s a hollow victory. We have just opened pandora’s box. Instead of solving the mystery, we’ve created many new ones.
TGB: How do the notorious Men in Black fit into all this? Do you think they really exist?
JAK: In the beginning, I thought the M.I.B. were just folklore…a ufological legend. Then I began encountering witnesses who had direct experiences with mystery men of all kinds. Men who couldn’t possibly have been connected with the government or Air Force…although they sometimes claimed to be. Others, such as Dr. Schwarz, uncovered M.I.B. cases independently. Obviously, there is more to this than anyone previously suspected. In STRANGE MUTANTS I give details on a number of baffling M.I.B. cases. It has always been my hope that one day we could actually corner one of these guys and get him to talk. Might torture him a little, like forcing him to listen to a Jim Moseley lecture or something.
TGB: That should make anyone talk!
JAK: Seriously, though…I’ve always considered the M.I.B. phenomenon to be one of the most important, least investigated and least understood aspects of this whole business. They are very real. They have a habit of turning up in the damnedest places at the damnedest times. They are definitely tied into the UFO mystery itself. But believers in extraterrestrial visitants have a hard time reconciling their beliefs with the presence of seemingly ordinary human beings in black suits who ride around in ordinary motor vehicles. Strangely enough, the professional skeptics have an even tougher time with the idea. Apparently, they can’t accept the notion of ordinary people in black Cadillacs either. So the M.I.B. are able to carry out their mysterious missions largely unnoticed and certainly unhindered. They’ve got the perfect cover. Disbelief!
TGB: It certainly looks that way. Tell us, where did you get the title STRANGE MUTANTS?
JAK: Well, I was thinking. Although UFOs and monsters have been seen throughout history, things really picked up after 1945…after the introduction of the atomic bomb. Few people realize that over 2,000 atom bombs have been set off in the earth’s atmosphere. The radioactive fallout has been horrendous, approaching the very dangerous level several times in recent years. Then there’s those miserable atomic power plants. They are a terrible danger, too. At hearings in Washington a few years ago, scientists and doctors attributed the deaths of 2,000 infants in the state of Michigan directly to the presence of the atomic power plants. They had overwhelming evidence. Yet the madness goes on.
John Fuller, an author well-known in ufology, wrote a book about a nuclear accident that took place in Michigan. It was called We Almost Lost Detroit. What he skimmed over was the fact that tall, hairy monsters were seen in the immediate vicinity of the Enrico Firmi Plant in Michigan just before it went blooey! Monsters have an uncanny habit of showing up around all these plants. It is quite possible, even quite probable, that many of the critters I have investigated and written about are, indeed, mutants…weird mutations of more ordinary animals produced by the radioactivity we are spreading over the world in our totally illogical, irresponsible fascination with genocide. In short, we have met the enemy and he is us.

Timothy Green Beckley has been described as the Hunter Thompson of UFOlogy by the editor of UFO magazine Nancy Birnes.
Since an early age his life has more or less revolved around the paranormal. At the age of three his life was saved by an invisible force. The house he was raised in was thought to be haunted. His grandfather saw a headless horseman.
Beckley also underwent out of body experiences starting at age six. And saw his first of three UFOs when he was but ten, and has had two more sightings since – including an attempt to communicate with one of these objects.
Tim grew up listening to the only all night talk show in the country that revolved around the strange and unexplained. Long John Nebel’s guests included the early UFO contactees who claimed to have visited other planets and built time machines in the desert. Tim was fascinated by everything that went bump in the night – or even in the daylight for that matter. Years later, Tim was to appear on Long John’s show numerous times and over the years has been a frequent guest on hundreds of programs which have come and gone just like ghosts in the night. He is a popular guest on Coast to Coast AM. Has appeared on William Shatners Weird Or What? And an episode of UFO Hunters regarding the dreaded Men In Black. Tim started his career as a writer early on – at age 14 he purchased a mimeograph machine and began to publish the Interplanetary News Service Report. Over the years he has written over 25 books on everything from rock music to the secret MJ12 papers. He has been a stringer for the national tabloids such as the Enquirer and editor of over 30 different magazines (most of which never lasted more than a couple of issues). His longest running effort was the newsstand publication UFO UNIVERSE which went for 11 years. Today he is the president of Inner Light/Global Communications and editor of the Conspiracy Journal and Bizarre Bazaar.
He is one of the few Americans ever to be invited to speak before closed door meetings on UFOs presided over by the late Earl of Clancarty at the House of Lords in England. He visited Loch Ness in Scotland while in the UK and went home with a belief that Nessie was somehow connected with dragons of mythology as well as strange discs engraved on cathedrals and ghostly phenomenon.

He probably knows more about the history of the UFO movement since the early 1950s than anyone today. Because of his fair and balanced approach he made friends with everyone regardless of whether or not he believed their stories. Tim is known among horror movie fans as Mr. Creepo. When asked his major cinema influences he mentions Nancy Reagan as having gotten him involved as a horror host. During the hay day of double features and Time Square grind houses he worked as a movie review critic as well as a publicist for several small film companies. You might have heard Maria D’Andrea on Coast to Coast AM being interviewed by George Noory, or as a guest on Tim Beckley/Tim Swartz’s podcast “Exploring the Bizarre” (KCORradio.com – Thursday’s 10 pm eastern). She seems to draw a bit of excitement whenever she appears on the air talking about her paranormal experiences and giving mini-psychic readings. Maria is an expert on many borderline paranormal topics, though she specializes in the occult, casting spells (all positive) and counseling those that need her help. She has authored many books, the latest one on the occult and familiars, and we don’t mean just black cats, or man’s best friend the canine, but all sorts of household animals, some of which might be considered very exotic.
Maria’s often quizzed about her background and I guess this is the perfect time and place to expand on some of the things she has discussed on the air.
One of Maria’s earliest memories is of fleeing as a refugee from her native Hungary during the Hungarian Uprising of 1956. She and her mother were among the 200,000 refugees seeking to escape iron-handed Communist rule in what would eventually become a failed revolution that was crushed by the puppet regime established by the Soviet Union.
On that cold, icy trek to freedom, Maria’s psychic powers may have saved her life and her mother’s life as well.
“It was actually my mother and some of her friends,” Maria recalled. “It was a large group. And as we were escaping, we got really cold and it was very dangerous. A lot of people around us were getting killed, but we were doing okay. The group stopped at a certain point and were trying to decide whether if they should go back or keep going forward. My mother told me I was six at the time. She said I told them that God said we should move forward and we’d be fine.
“I don’t know why anybody would listen to somebody that’s six in the first place,” Maria continued. “But my mother said the group split up and half of them went back. The other half decided to listen to me. Apparently I wasn’t speaking in a way that a six-year-old would normally speak. My mother said the way I phrased it wouldn’t make sense for somebody my age. The group that went back, all of them got killed. But we made it to freedom.”
Maria and her fellow travelers reached the safety of Austria and she and her mother would eventually resettle in the United States.
The same psychic powers that delivered Maria and the other refugees from death have served her well as an adult. She has long been a full time, professional psychic, meaning that she makes her living giving readings and counseling to those seeking help from beyond. She is also an interfaith minister and a shaman and speaks publicly on spiritual, psychic, paranormal and interdimensional topics. Meanwhile, other members of her family, although they have similar abilities, don’t make their living that way.
IN THE FAMILY WAY
“Everyone in my family,” she said, “have jobs that have nothing to do with psychic situations. However, they do some psychic work on the side. As an example, both of my sons are in analytical fields and they both do readings. My grandparents on my mother’s side were trance mediums. My grandfather also did automatic writing and he used to channel his brother who had passed away when he was a lot younger.”
Maria’s father owned a couple of businesses and was well-served by his analytical and psychic abilities.
“Most of the people in my family were priests and ministers and professors at universities,” Maria said, “so they all had analytical jobs and possessed psychic gifts. They were highly intuitive.”
EVERYONE’S A PSYCHIC
But Maria insists that everybody everywhere has some degree of psychic ability hidden within them.
“Everyone at some point has had a gut feeling,” she explained. “For example, when you first meet someone, not every time, but every now and then, before you even say hello you have an urge telling you whether you like them or you don’t. You ever notice that? So when you get that feeling, it’s more or less accurate. It’s a very intuitive, psychic – it’s like a warning system. It tells you basically if someone is not going to get along with you.”
This doesn’t operate as a moral judgment on the other person, according to Maria. It simply means the connection between you and that person is not going to work out. Meanwhile, one’s intuition could just as likely be telling you that you’ve encountered a good situation.
“So you’re picking up on whatever it actually is,” she said. “I feel that everyone has a base of psychic and intuitive ability. You can look at it this way: Some people are artists but everybody can draw. Well, pretty much, except me. I can’t do a stick figure. But everybody has a base for that also.”
Global Communications/Inner Light Publications has published many of Maria’s books on numerous psychic topics. She is quick to point out that all her books are “How-To” books as opposed to a vain fixation on writing about her own life story.
“I truly believe that the more you can do for yourself, the better the world gets,” she reasoned. “The better you do, the more you can help other people, and the better it gets for people around you. As an example, I have a book on finance. I have one on evocation, which is a heavier level of dealing with the spiritual realm. And then I have one that is a positively positive spell book.
“I really never write anything negative and I don’t teach negativity. I truly believe in karma and that whatever you put out comes back. There’s always a positive way to approach everything. And the whole point is to help people improve their lives, whether it’s through meditation or rituals or spells or mentally focusing on situations. I always feel that if you have an interest in it then you’ll be attracted to it and you can benefit by spiritually improving your life.”

Maria’s bestselling “Yes You Can!” series of books includes a newer title called “Supernatural Words of Power,” which teaches one how to harness the simple spoken word to attain and achieve the things you long for in life. You will learn to command the true power of language to establish an open channel to the cosmos. There is a powerful energy force generated by the spoken word that man has been able to control since ancient times, but this ability has been locked away in our collective unconscious and hidden from the masses of us for eons. Maria teaches a simple, step-by-step methodology for reawakening the power concealed within us using words as that force’s most basic tool of expression.
But if you find yourself not interested in different methods of psychic “reaching out,” then you’re not supposed to be reading her books.
“It always goes to the person who is ready to move on that type of situation,” she said. “You know that saying? When the student is ready, the teacher comes. I tend to look at it that way. Sometimes it’s just a matter of letting people know the techniques and the tools they can actually use to improve their lives. Whether they want to move on it or not, that is free will.”
One of the most basic components of what Maria teaches is open-mindedness, a sense of the psychic realm as a place we can freely explore in a continual learning experience. But first we must learn “psychic self-defense,” which Maria cautions readers to do in all of her books by the use of rituals and spells and by visualizing the protective white light radiating from heaven itself. Once that is taken care of, a positive spirit may come and speak to the seeker.
“Now, it can be clairaudient,” she explained, “which means you can actually hear words in your mind. It sounds exactly the same as if someone was standing behind you where you don’t see them but they’re talking to you. There’s absolutely no difference in the way you hear it clairaudiently. Sometimes you have to remember they’re not literally there.
“I’ve actually had it happen where I turned around to answer somebody before I remembered that they weren’t ‘there,’” she said, laughing. “But it sounds exactly the same. Sometimes you clairvoyantly see something or someone. You can actually see them physically. It depends on the situation.”
“FAMILIARIZING” ONE’S SELF
“But all of that,” as the saying goes, “is prelude.”
Maria has recently released a book with the provocative title “Witchcraft, The Occult and How to Select a Familiar.” The new book teaches students how to improve their psychic work by working with what is called a “familiar,” which may be a new and unfamiliar term to some readers.
“Thinking of familiars,” Maria writes, “brings forth a vision of cats by a cauldron and a witch, mainly because of past misconceptions and, of course, the media. Although familiars are used in what people think of as harmful witchcraft, they seem to forget it’s also used in helping with healing, relationships, prosperity and so forth. Nature is neutral. The person doing magick is positive or negative, not nature.
“I always say,” she continues, “if there’s a drought and it rains, that is positive. Now, if your neighbor is building an ark, not so much. But the rain itself is neutral. Our perspective makes it good or bad. There is an occult law that states: like attracts like.”
Familiars are sent as helpers to the mortal psychic and have been employed throughout human history. They still exist today in all cultures of the Earth.
“Your familiar has to fit your lifestyle,” Maria writes, “and be dedicated to you, meaning there’s psychic bond between you and it. It has abilities that you can call on and that are already within you. Working with familiars isn’t limited by time and space. Those are manmade outlooks to help us function in the physical plane and do not exist in the realms to which we will be journeying.”
Maria went on describing the nature of familiars, which she says, by the way, can never be a person.
“A familiar can be on the physical or non-physical plane,” she explains. “They work with us by their choice. And, of course, by our choice. We never restrict them. We have a psychic link to our familiar and have to respect it. A psychic link is very serious. We don’t want that connection to anything negative on either side of reality.”
A list of synonyms is provided for the sake of clarity.
“Some other names for familiars are totems, guardians, spirit animals, physical animals, elementals, elves, fairies, leprechauns, dragons, unicorns, astral dwellers, ancestors (including parents), spirit teachers, ghosts, angels, insects, imps, protectors, advisors, pathfinders (for finding your path) and many more. Also, there are stones, trees and herbs. These connections are also considered familiars.”
BECOMING ONE WITH HER FAMILIAR
Maria does not merely teach about contacting and relating to one’s familiar, she has firsthand experiences to go with it.
“At one time, one of my familiars was a deer,” she writes. “I was on a hike by myself in the mountains and I had the urge to look over to my right. When I looked, I saw a deer a few feet away from me, just standing still and staring at me. The deer was comfortable with me, sensing I wouldn’t harm it, and feeling I had a connection to it. Animals are very sensitive to danger and conscious of their safety.
“It was funny,” she went on, “because we just stood there for a few minutes staring at each other; neither one of us moving. As I looked, I felt like I was being drawn out of my body and toward the deer. All of a sudden, I was inside the deer, feeling my new body shape, and looking out at the mountain through its eyes. Everything I saw was gray, white or dark. Nothing had color. That was a surprise. I spent a few minutes like that, seeing out of its eyes.
“Just as suddenly, I was back in my body and looking once again at the deer. I thanked it and slowly walked away. You really can’t make this stuff up.”
MORE ON THE ATTRIBUTES OF FAMILIARS
There is even more from Maria one just what a familiar is all about.
“When you connect to your familiar,” she writes, “they become a part of you. They are power animals or powerful familiars in whatever form they show up. They come to you because you have some type of rapport. They are sacred beings.
“They have to want to work with you. They can’t be forced or coerced. They have to choose you, too. Remember that it is a partnership. If it’s any form of animal, it connects to the animal qualities within you. Familiars can be fun, have a sense of humor, be serious, mischievous, practical, playful, informative, loving, guiding, protecting. They bring awareness and truth to your life. They help elevate you spiritually as well as connecting you with nature, other realms and magick. They can inspire you and work with you in amazing ways.”
Familiars are all some form of magickal beings, according to Maria. They have a psychic link to you and are in harmony with who you are, what you do and how you live.
“Remember, they are attracted to the ‘real’ you,” she writes. “We are back to ‘like attracts like.’”
THE TRUSTWORTHY TOUCH OF THE DRAGON
Dragon energy has been with us for ages. They are known as protectors (of treasures, castles, people, etc). They are the wise sages who give knowledge and insight into both the physical and non-physical realms. They are also said to be evil, but Maria affirms that she only attracts its positive characteristics, as declared from the times of the ancients.
“My main familiar is a dragon,” Maria writes. She then proceeds to tell a fascinating story.
“A friend of mine,” she recounts, “Brother Revels-Bey, was renting a room in a house with other people years ago. He wasn’t planning on living there for long because some of the people were negative. He called me up one day and said he’s going to New Jersey (we’re in New York) because he felt something was ‘off’ and needed to get away. He asked me to make sure his room was safe and nothing would happen to his belongings. He went on his way and I put my dragon outside his door to guard it.
“I got a call the next day that the police were at his house looking for him. It turned out that someone accidentally started a fire and the whole house burned. I got there as soon as I could. The house was all black. There were a few pieces of furniture left on the lawn that were so burned that it was hard to recognize what they were.
“The only room that wasn’t burned was his. Not one thing burned. The police were looking for him because they thought he might have started the fire since his room – strangely – wasn’t touched by it. Luckily, he could prove he was out of state. He still had to get rid of many things due to the scent of the smoke permeating some items.
“Dragons are great protectors.”
THE OLD FAMILIAR STANDBY: CATS
There is a vast array of potential familiars besides dragons, of course. Horses, dolphins, hawks and other birds, even angels, can join forces with you as a familiar. But let’s look at that old familiar standby: cats.
“Cats have been known as familiars for centuries,” Maria writes. “Think of how much the Egyptians were focused on them in several varied forms. Cats are associated with witches, sorcerers, oracles, magi and others.
“The witch is known for acquiring a physical cat to send out to do her bidding and return to her. Some say that her spirit can go into the body of the cat at will and perform her magick. Others say she controls the cat with her witchcraft. Still others say that she controls the spirit of a cat, not the physical being. Some worship a cat deity to help in times of trouble or to better a situation.
“You may or may not resonate to a cat familiar. If you do, you will be following in the footsteps of many light workers. If you don’t feel an affinity to a cat, you will resonate with a familiar that is better for you.”
As in everyday reality, different cat species have different capabilities. For instance, a Siamese cat has a very distinctive look and is very intelligent. They can be very vocal, which translates to a person being good at expressing an idea or a point of view. They can carry themselves with grace and are very persistent.
Meanwhile, a Persian cat is a quiet creature, unlike a Siamese, and just wants to roam around. The Persian cat likes affection and will come to you for the feeling of being touched, but only when it wants to, when the mood strikes it. It is also very inquisitive.
An alley cat is a different sort entirely. It functions more as a hunter, and must provide itself with food. Hunting requires it to be agile and cunning. The alley cat is a survivor in all senses of that word. This type can also fight when required, to keep what is theirs, and are intelligent and very resourceful. They are generally loners but will be protective of whatever family they may have.
Still another feline familiar is the calico cat. They are feisty and intelligent. They’re independent and like their space, but can be very loyal. These cats are very loving, so, if you like unconditional love, this is the cat for you.
“Do you resonate with cats?” Maria asks. “What part of your personality matches with them? What part doesn’t? This will give you insight about yourself.
“Remember,” she adds, “life is an adventure. You are in the process of awakening to wonderful realms, powers and possibilities.”

“Looking back, as far as I am concerned, it was one of the most exciting periods in modern history. It was the mid-1960s and society was becoming more liberal minded. And I was growing up in suburbia, eager to leave my childhood nest in New Jersey and head down the highway, even if the highway was a bus route that led to Manhattan’s Times Square.”
So says the eclectic Timothy Green Beckley, who once confessed he has had so many professions that even his own girlfriend doesn’t know what he does for a living.
“I was always more into the night life than a daylight routine, probably because I would spend midnight to dawn listening to the chatter of my transistor radio and the panel discussions hosted by the six-foot-seven Long John Nebel, who pioneered the concept of a radio talk show heavily influenced by the latest developments in the UFO and occult fields. Long John was on New York radio station WOR long before Art Bell made it big with Coast to Coast AM. Eventually I became a guest on Nebel’s show myself.”
It was while hanging out “after hours” in the bohemian hotspot known as Greenwich Village that Tim cut his teeth on rock music, listening to up-and-coming artists like Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter and, later, the likes of the New York Dolls with their glam dress and six inch platform shoes.
But this isn’t so much about Tim as it is another rogue personality, a charming young lady who was an important figure in that same time period and who had an impact on many that has lasted to this very day, though she passed from the scene almost four decades ago.
Can a woman who calls herself a witch also be a righteous, even saintly, person? Does she harness powers that are intended to lead to harmless, positive and beneficial results? If one were to look for evidence that such things are possible, then the life of White Witch Walli Elmlark would be a good place to start one’s search.
One of Walli’s most dedicated friends was the aforementioned Timothy Green Beckley, the CEO of the publishing company Inner Light/Global Communications. Tim has penned a memoir of his time spent with Walli called “David Bowie – UFOs – Witchcraft – Cocaine – and Paranoia, The Occult Saga of Wall Elmlark, The ‘Rock n’ Roll’ Witch of New York.” Obviously one can get the gist of what the book is about from the keywords of the title. But how Walli created a loving and compassionate life from that strange recipe is the real subject of Tim’s heartfelt tribute to her.
The book is available as a special, full color collector’s edition featuring photos by Helen Hovey and original art by Carol Ann Rodriguez. It’s almost as beautiful to look at as Walli was herself. It also includes Original Spells (the white magic kind) and a great deal of Wiccan Lore for the student and uneducated both.
Tim begins the book by sketching in some of Walli’s more sensational credits, such as the fact that she did spiritual work for David Bowie, who admitted that he owed his life to her. But more about that later.
Tim recounts his own rock and roll upbringing, starting as a fan of Little Richard and Chuck Berry. As the rock music era progressed, Tim became a fixture backstage at places like The Academy of Music, where he met many major stars of the 60s and 70s. He also began to promote rock concerts himself, particularly with some early glam acts that never quite made it big.
At this same time, Tim founded one of the first, if not the very first, metaphysical centers in the country, called The New York School of Occult Arts and Sciences. It was located in a 2200 square foot loft on the second floor of an apartment building on 14th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, about six blocks from The Academy.
“We had lectures and workshops on UFOs, Tarot cards, Witchcraft, Prophecy, Astral Projection,” Tim explained, “as well as lessons in how to use the Ouija Board (safely!) And we held midnight séances every Saturday with the medium Kitty Steele, a former model from Michigan.”
There were several rock stars with an interest in the occult, including Doctor John the Night Tripper, who visited Tim’s school in full voodoo regalia to be photographed by budding shutterbug Helen Hovey, a friend of Beckley’s from their teenage years. Around that same time, Tim and Helen managed to wrangle a place on the guest list at The Academy of Music through a woman named Lila Schuman, who answered the phone and did typing for the venue.
“Somehow the conversation got around to the occult,” Tim writes, “and I remember helping Lila find a ring that she had lost somewhere in her apartment through ‘remote viewing.’ It had fallen behind a bureau, if I recall, and that is where I had psychically visualized it. She was most impressed, having dug it out from behind a rather heavy chest of drawers, pretty much where I said she would find it.”
Lila next wrote Tim a letter in which she said that Tim and his friend Helen should meet a particular female rock columnist who was making herself known backstage by giving spiritual advice to some of the more open-minded musicians who did not sneer at the super-normal matters that so fascinated Tim and his crowd of fellow believers.
ENTER WALLI ELMLARK
The columnist was, of course, the titular rock and roll witch, Walli Elmlark. Tim begins immediately to defend her honor.
“Walli had been raised in a Jewish family but had found the tenets of witchcraft more to her liking,” Beckley writes. “She had become a member of the Wiccan faith, a form of paganism going far back into antiquity and predating Christianity by God knows how long. Walli was quick to point out that she was NOT a Satanist, nor did she wish harm onto others. She was a good witch, or ‘white witch,’ casting beneficial spells and using candles and gemstones for ‘self-empowerment.’
“In folklore,” Tim continues, “witches are often portrayed in negative ways, being malicious or sinister by nature. Many are depicted as archetypal ‘old crones,’ well past their prime, who are frequently scary and ‘rough around the edges,’ appearance-wise.”
By contrast, Walli was beautiful to look at.
Helen, Tim’s photographer friend, said that Walli “stood out in the crowd, even among the long-haired hipsters and mod, English-style dressers. She was a very imposing individual, with a very striking figure. Dressed in black, with dark makeup and silver jewelry and a green streak in her hair, Walli’s fashion sense was trailblazing; not really goth, but certainly cutting edge. You knew she was someone special, not just the average journalist with pen and paper out to get a good quote.”
Walli had already gained a reputation as a journalist by writing for the English publication “Melody Maker,” a music newspaper that provided the Beatles with some of their early media attention. In the U.S., Walli was a columnist for “Circus Magazine,” a glossy, full color newsstand periodical that appealed to a younger audience and concentrated on hard rock bands without straying over into politics, like “Rolling Stone.”
When Helen asked Walli to pose for some photos, Walli was at first rather shy. But when Helen set up her camera equipment, Walli seemed to be more at ease.
“It almost seemed after a while that we had known each other for a lifetime,” Helen told Tim. “She was by no means a diva, though she could have been with her famous friends. She was wise beyond her years and seemed to have a window into the future of rock and roll. She certainly had a keen ear for an up-and-coming performer.”
Helen said that Walli always had a lot of rockers going to and from her apartment, and not just to be interviewed. A lot of the musicians were eager to hear what she had to say as word of her witchcraft activities began to spread. Some of the stars wanted a psychic reading from her or advice about a good luck candle.
DAVID BOWIE AND WALLI’S MUTUAL INTEREST
“Walli Elmlark knew David Bowie,” Tim writes. “He had been to her apartment. They were striking up a friendship, getting some sort of bond going. True, she wrote a very prestigious column for ‘Circus Magazine,’ but beyond the attention she could give the newly-arrived pop singer from Britain, whose career was just blossoming in the U.S., they seemed to have a lot in common on a personal level. Bowie was really interested in the same things Walli was. Witchcraft! Magick! UFOs!”
And Bowie was not an idle curiosity seeker. He had experiences of his own, had seen UFOs, believed in time travel and sought out other dimensions, all within a spiritual framework.
Walli introduced Tim to Bowie and the two gentlemen shook hands. But there was a large gathering of reporters there to question Bowie, so Tim wasn’t able to converse much with the rising superstar. Bowie later called Tim once while trying to track down Walli, who had the type of knowledge Bowie was looking to tap into.
Within a few years, Bowie had developed a cocaine habit that began to cause him serious psychological problems. He was living in Los Angeles (only a few houses from where the Charles Manson family had murdered Sharon Tate and her companions) and planning the follow-up to his “Young Americans” album, according to Marc Spitz, the author of “Bowie: A Biography.”
“Bowie would sit in the house with a pile of high-quality cocaine atop the glass table,” Spitz writes, “a sketch pad and a stack of books. ‘Psychic Self Defense,’ by Dion Fortune, was his favorite. Its author describes the book as a ‘safeguard for protecting yourself against paranormal malevolence.’ Using this and more arcane books on witchcraft, white magic and its malevolent counterpart, black magic, as rough guides to his own rapidly fragmenting psyche, Bowie began drawing protective pentagrams on every surface.”
Bowie would later say that he stayed up for weeks and was hallucinating 24 hours a day. An acquaintance of Bowie’s, the poet and songwriter Cherry Vanilla, hooked Bowie up with Walli in an effort to help the struggling pop star. Spitz describes Walli as a “Manhattan-based intellectual who taught classes at the New York School of Occult Arts and Sciences, then located on Fourteenth Street just north of Greenwich Village,” which, as we know, Tim owned and operated.
Meanwhile, Bowie and his then-wife Angie were living in their house in Los Angeles, which happened to have an indoor pool. In his drug-induced paranoia, Bowie felt Satan lived in the pool.
“With his own eyes,” Angie would later write, “David said he’d seen HIM rising up out of the water one night.”
Feeling demonic forces moving in, Bowie strongly believed that he needed an exorcism, and asked that his newfound friend, white witch Walli Elmlark, be called upon to lend her assistance to remove the evil from his home. A Greek Orthodox Church in Los Angeles said they would do the exorcism, and even had a priest available for such a service, but Bowie wanted no strangers involved.
“So there we stood,” Angie writes, “with just Walli’s instructions and a few hundred dollars’ worth of books, talismans and assorted items from Hollywood’s comprehensive selection of fine occult emporiums.”
Bowie began to recite an incantation surrounded by the items Walli had advised him to obtain.
“There’s no easy or elegant way to say this,” Angela writes, “so I’ll just say it straight. At a certain point in the ritual, the pool began to bubble. It bubbled vigorously (perhaps ‘thrashed’ is a better term) in a manner inconsistent with any explanation involving air filters or the like.”
The couple watched in amazement. Angie tried to joke about it, saying to Bowie, “Well, dear, aren’t you clever! It seems to be working. Something’s making a move, don’t you think?” But she couldn’t keep up the humorous brave front for long.
“I was having trouble accepting what my eyes were seeing,” she writes. “On the bottom of the pool was a large shadow, or stain, which had not been there before the ritual began. It was in the shape of a beast of the underworld; it reminded me of those twisted, tormented gargoyles screaming silently from the spires of medieval cathedrals. It was ugly, shocking, and malevolent; it frightened me.”
Bowie insisted that he and Angie relocate as soon as possible. Subsequent tenants, according to the real estate agent in charge of the property, haven’t been able to remove the stain. Even though the pool has been painted over a number of times, the shadow always comes back.
Along with the spiritual help given by Walli to Bowie in his battle against the evil forces in his swimming pool, her spellcasting and positive affirmations made it easier for Bowie to beat his cocaine addiction.
WALLI’S WICCA DOCTRINE
A close confidant of Tim’s is the artist Carol Ann Rodriguez. She was in her 20s during the heyday of Tim’s New York School of Occult Arts and Sciences. Carol had been into the occult for some time and decided to attend a class at the school after seeing an ad in The Village Voice. Carol was in attendance for a lecture by Walli.
“I liked Walli’s wonderful way of explaining witchcraft and paganism as a positive way of life,” Carol says, “and decided to sign up for one of Walli’s classes which she held at her apartment uptown.”
In her classes, Walli lectured on the basics of her faith, called Wicca.
“Wicca is about love and worshipping,” she would say. “The only ‘don’t’ we practice is don’t harm others. Whatever deed you do could backfire on you and come back two or even three-fold.”
Walli emphasized that witches do not believe in heaven or hell.
“There is no god seated on a throne in the clouds,” according to Walli, “and no hell to descend to. There are low-level spirits, known as elementals or demons, which can attach themselves to humans who might have low self-esteem or who indulge in harmful activities. There is, however, a Great Mother, or the goddess Diana, as she has been named. She was formed out of an infinite void, creating an energy source which no religion can tell you how or when it originated.
“There is a reason for everything,” she went on. “The reason why may not always be apparent. Sometimes it takes years to see the reason something had to happen as it did, but there is always a reason.”
Tim’s book also offers Walli’s Wiccan views on a variety of other matters, such as her warnings against playing mind games, against feeling hatred and seeking vengeance, along with admonitions about our becoming givers and healers and understanding the importance of love.
“The world does a lot of talking about love and truth,” Walli said, “but in fact knows little about it. Love to us means thinking beyond ourselves to the other person. What might be best for me might not be best for him. His interests come first.”
Walli’s preaching a gospel of unselfish love is a far cry from the archetypal devil-worshipping witches gathered around a cauldron of evil magic. The artist Carol, for one, feels that Walli truly wanted to use her powers – and she did have them – in a positive way and to help others when she possibly could.
THE DIVINE MISSION OF THE “CHOSEN” ROCK STARS
Walli was particularly drawn to Marc Bolan, the front man for the British rock band T. Rex. She believed he was Merlin the Wizard reincarnated as a rock star in order to spread a message of enlightenment alongside other music greats like Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie. The powers-that-be wanted to create positive change in the world via rock music, and Walli was part of that mission.
She even recorded a spoken word album in which she explained this belief system, produced by Robert Fripp of the band King Crimson. The album was never released and it is not known whether the original tapes still exist.
In this just-released book, Walli describes her association with numerous rock and rollers and counterculture celebrity types. She also befriended artist Vaughn Bode, an underground cartoonist who accidentally hung himself while performing what was claimed to be a spiritual form of autoerotic asphyxiation. And Freddy Prinze, who was possessed by the rebellious and often foul-mouthed comic Lenny Bruce. Bruce was repeatedly arrested in the 1960s for public obscenity when heavy-handed censorship made it impossible to say certain things while on stage.
Tim says that one of the things that intrigues him is that, even though Walli is no longer with us on this side of the veil, many of those she came in contact with still think highly of her.
“And when I tracked them down,” he says, “they were more than willing to relate spellbinding incidents that happened to them during their association with New York’s White Witch.”
“David Bowie – UFOs – Witchcraft – Cocaine – and Paranoia” also includes some simple spells from Walli’s Wiccan practices, like a spell to court a new love or rekindle an old one, a spell to protect an object and another to obtain money. It is by such spells that Walli qualifies as a genuine witch of the harmless – but very powerful – persuasion.
On a more personal level, Walli’s parents had never approved of her lifestyle or her belief in witchcraft. Whenever she visited home, she would return depressed. Walli had been married twice and had given birth to a son. Her parents would tell her she was an embarrassment to them and that her son would be better off without her.
Walli took her own life around 1980 with an overdose of barbiturates. Her friend Carol said the news reached Walli’s friends through a member of the family.
“I always thought it was suspicious,” Carol said, “that we hadn’t gotten word of this in any other way, nor did we see any notice in the papers. I wonder if perhaps they had her whisked away and maybe committed. My spirit guides would not confirm what we had been told.”
If you are of a certain age, the counterculture history recounted in “David Bowie – UFOs – Witchcraft – Cocaine – and Paranoia” will take you to a nostalgic wonderland while also rewriting what you think you know of that history with true stories of Walli, various rock stars and their shared occult mission. For younger students of white magic or the occult in general, here is an opportunity to learn from a master of positive energy who sought beneficial outcomes for the people she tried to help.

I’ve never tried to conceal the fact that I worked in the adult entertainment industry. No, I wasn’t a porn star though I did have a cameo role in a film shot in San Francisco and starring Candy Samples. Candy was at one time married to soft porn producer Russ – “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” – Meyer. Although Meyer has been deceased for many years, his films are still available with the income going to his estate.
Raven de la Croix
Most notable is the fact that our friend and Sedona, Arizona, UFO abductee – the very talented actress, dancer and artist Raven de la Croix – can be seen strutting her feminine wiles in Russ’s box office hit “Raven,” doubtlessly named after Ms. de la Crois in honor of her charm and beauty. Later on, Raven describes in these pages her sexual encounter and abduction at the hands of the aliens.
At one point back in the mid-1970s I was the movie critic for Hustler Magazine (Larry Flynt was too creepy for my taste) and a couple of years later Editor-in-Chief of Adult Cinema Review. So, whenever an adult film starlet was in town, chances are I would hook up with them to do an interview or attend a screening of their most recent XXX flick. I can’t say a lot of them had UFO experiences, but a few did, and others were mildly interested in the subject enough so that we would hang out at Bernard’s, a bar just off the Minnesota Strip, a section of the Times Square “red light district” that catered to some rather hot-blooded ladies who worked the neighborhood peep shows and topless bars. 42nd Street was kind of raw in those days, and a real draw for out- of-towners – way out- of-towners in our case, I would say.
Model-turned-actress Marilyn Chambers had a very provocative abduction experience.
“Behind the Green Door” star Marilyn Chambers was one of the better known adult film actresses. In fact, she had been at one point an aspiring model whose face graced the box cover of Ivory Snow detergent. She was also a legit singer and a dancer, though she would still shake her booty at some of the Manhattan strip clubs where she would attract a sizeable crowd and make an evening very profitable, both through a cut of the door and tips that her fans lavished upon her (they would throw the fives and tens in a bucket as she paraded around the room).
To say the least, it was all good in the hood – if that was the kind of excitement you were seeking.
I should explain that Chambers was, when I met her, married to a Svengali-type guy by the name of Chuck Traynor, who was previously hitched to “Deep Throat’s” Linda Lovelance. Lovelace claimed that Traynor had forced her into adult films by holding a gun to her head and beating her to have sex with other men. I can’t comment on these allegations. I did have lunch with Traynor, who came off as being the ultimate sleaze, and he was disliked by most adult film industry people (cast and crew). But that has nothing to do with our UFO tale.
The National Tattler.
I wrote up Marilyn’s UFO encounter for the National Tattler, a weekly tabloid that actually printed a lot of stories on the paranormal and were fairly accurate in their reporting, especially when I was one of their stringers and had a UFO event to tell. They were more likely to take a story than the Enquirer, which had a higher, tougher criterion when it came to accepting freelance articles. Marilyn, as I recall, was stopped at a red light when a UFO parked itself overhead and followed her, keeping pace with her car for a couple of miles. If you can find the account in an old issue of Saga’s UFO Report, which I have since lost, I believe there was an illustration that she did for me of the ship which I can’t find the original of either.
What I promised not to reveal at the time was Marilyn’s sexual abduction experience, which she was afraid of telling for fear it might harm her career. She had released an album of disco music and wanted to go “legit” and thought this might possibly damage her reputation (fat chance!). Don’t make me laugh, but I did keep my promise to keep her experience to myself. But now, since MC passed away many years ago, I can tell all about what transpired to the best of my recollection.
The night of her UFO sighting, which I think might have taken place in Detroit or Chicago – but don’t hold me to that – Marilyn had gone to bed around midnight. There was a storm, she said, brewing outside, but she had kept the window ajar to take in a bit of fresh air. Shortly thereafter, a bright light shone into her bedroom which she initially thought was someone attempting to turn around in the street.
Suddenly, Marilyn says her bed was surrounded by three or four shadowy figures who reached out, beginning to touch and caress her. Chambers admitted to me that since she was in real life easy to excite sexually so she thought perhaps she was simply experiencing a nocturnal orgasm in a dream state. But the hands felt all too real.
“They certainly were not what you would call tender caresses,” she elaborated.
What did the figures and hands look like?
“Well, they were a bit longer and bonier than those of a human,” Marilyn answered, “and they had large heads and a broad torso, but they weren’t monstrous or anything.”
Like many other abductees, Chambers said she was pulled through the wall and found herself inside some sort of tiny compartment somewhere outside of her apartment. She says the beings proceeded to have their way with her.
“I can’t say it wasn’t pleasurable. They invited me to have a drink with them and this settled my nerves and made me more relaxed.”
Unlike some of the abductees who feel they are being used in some form of experimentation, Marilyn did not get that impression.
“They seemed to find it very pleasurable,” she recalled. “I wasn’t forced, but neither was I a completely willing partner!”
Frankly, I can’t recall how or under what circumstances Chambers returned home. It’s as much a blur to me now as it was to her at the time of her experience. Figuring I wouldn’t have to document her story, I probably didn’t take very good notes. I remember conducting the interview and the background noise was so overwhelming when I tried to transcribe the tape I probably never completed the job.
If there are any other adult performers out there who have had UFO experiences drop me a line. We’ll keep your identity to ourselves, or blab it to the world, whatever whets your “noodle” (hum, hum).
THE NORDICS HAVE THEIR WAY
The sexy Nordic space women are a sight to behold in their form-fitting jumpsuits.
Most followers of the UFO mystery will know of what and whom I speak when I say that there are presumably Nordic-type “Space Brothers” living on the Earth alongside us mere mortals, who, while from another place and time, manage to reside here without being detected. Some may not even realize that they have come from the stars, either literally or having reincarnated into an earthly body to make the journey.
To my way of thinking, the Nordics are your dyed-in-the-wool Aryans. Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Six feet tall. They give the impression that they have just gotten off the set of a daytime TV soap opera, perfect teeth, long tapered fingers and a sleek and slender waste line. From what we hear, the Nordic space women are a sight to behold in their form-fitting jump suits. (We’re told no bras are worn on their home planets.) The early contactees George Adamski, Truman Bethrum and Orfeo Angelucci spoke of these visually stunning alien women in glowing terms, but they never did let us peek behind the veil to see what they might have done to support these peace-loving confederation travelers, especially when a close contact was made in the moonlight of the Mojave Desert.
Indeed, we would like to know just how close were these close encounters?
Truman Bethrum’s human wife did identify Aura Raines as the cause of their breakup in divorce papers that she filed in California, and one source close to the contactee once said: “Truman told me that Aura was a sight to behold, even for the most discriminating earthmen’s eye.”
HOWARD MENGER WAS DIFFERENT!

Since this is not a book about the Space Brothers or about UFOs in particular, but one about the sexcapades of our off-world visitors, we promise to stay more or less on topic.
I knew Howard Menger fairly well. He and his wife Connie were good eggs, as far as I was concerned, despite what some skeptical folks might have said about their supposed adventures in space warp speed. Even after they retired from their sign painting business, they would make the long haul from Vero Beach, Florida, to Phoenix or San Diego to speak at my various UFO expos, even going so far as to drag, in a mini-trailer behind their auto, the “XR-1,” a homespun saucer-shaped craft that Howard had built and which he said would eventually fly, or had flown once before, using a series of rotating magnets as its principle means of propulsion. Howard had gotten the plans for this device from his outer space friends, who looked remarkably human and were often seen landing and coming out of your typical saucer-shaped craft that would park in the apple orchard behind his High Bridge, New Jersey home.

In the mid-1950s Howard held an outdoor convention on his property that was well-attended, mainly due to the support given by Long John Nebel, the dean of all night talk show hosts, who was the originator of the paranormal/UFO broadcast type program, long before Art Bell took over the dusk to dawn airwaves (and so recognized). Photographed seated and taking notes on Menger’s grounds was said to be the spaceman, Val Thor, who later was to befriend the late minister Rev. Frank E. Stranges. Stranges had met Valiant inside the Pentagon, where he had stayed with our government’s knowledge for three years. In general, it can be said that from time to time, some very strange “people” were showing up on Menger’s estate. No one who hung around his place on a regular basis hoping for a spacey contact of their own could possibly deny this fact.
As Howard told the story later in life, the sun was shining brightly on that day in 1932 – a day that was to change Menger’s life forever and shape the belief patterns of many who were to be drawn in the years ahead to his uniquely divergent sense of reality.
“There, sitting on a rock by the brook,” Menger poetically reminisced in his memoirs, “The High Bridge Incident,” “was the most exquisite woman my young eyes had ever beheld! The warm sunlight caught the highlights of her long golden hair as it cascaded around her face and shoulders. The curves of her lovely body were delicately contoured . . . revealed through the translucent material of clothing which reminded me of the habit that skiers wear.” To say that the young Howard Menger was more “unworldly wise” than his age would seem to allow is no minor point when relating his life’s most impacting moments.

Howard continues by explaining that the lady on the rock “turned her head in my direction. Even though very young, the feeling I received was unmistakable. It was a tremendous surge of warmth, love and physical attraction, which emanated from her to me. Suddenly, all my anxiety was gone, and I approached her as one would an old friend or loved one. She seemed to radiate and glow as she sat on the rock, and I wondered if it were due to the unusual quality of the material she wore, which had a shimmering, shiny texture not unlike but far surpassing the sheen of nylon. The clothing had no buttons, fasteners or seams I could discern. She wore no makeup, which would have been unnecessary to the fragile transparency of her camellia-like skin with pinkish undertones. Her eyes, opalescent discs of gold, turned their smiling affection on me with a tranquil luminescence.”
This initial contact with a minor under the age of ten did seem overly amorous for such a young boy – we hesitate to think that it went any further than just a brief flirtation and did not involve lewd and lascivious behavior with a minor.
In 1946, when he returned home from the war, Menger met the stone girl again, but this time she had come out of a UFO clad in a gray-blue plaid outfit that outlined her perfect body. After informing her about her mission on Earth – spreading love and peace among men – the girl kissed Menger. He asked if they would see each other again, getting a negative answer. But she promised that one day he would meet her sister, a Venusian incarnated on Earth. “She will work with you and be with you for a lifetime. You will recognize her as soon as you see her,” the saucerian gal confirmed.
The ironic punchline is that years later Howard DID come face-to-face with this spacewoman’s identical twin. Initially, Howard thought that an attractive blonde named Connie Weber, who showed up at one of his conclaves, was the same woman he had met as a youth on the back forty. Eventually, he surmised that she was the reincarnation of a spacewoman that he had known in a biblical sense in a previous life on Venus. Howard divorced his first wife and married the beautiful blonde interplanetary lookalike. They had two wonderful girls and did work together for many decades before Howard passed into the Venusian sunset. (Connie died a few years ago at the age of 95.)
THE MUNDANE AND THE EXTRAORDINARY
But to get on with our story.
At one point in my publishing career I was a contributing editor for a number of Penthouse-style forum magazines. These were the digest-sized publications that printed actual letters from readers describing their sexual experiences, anywhere from telling how they lost their virginity to how they got away with cheating on their mate. Penthouse Forum was the most “prestigious” of these publications and, being attached to a magazine that sold over two million copies at one point, it had quite a run and could boast of a couple hundred thousand readers at its peak.
There were numerous imitators and these are the publishers I worked for. My job was to rewrite the letters to make them readable. Let me tell you, that was often a hard task. Forgetting the bad punctuation and the terrible spelling, just to read some of these letters and format them so they could be sent to the typesetter was a daunting undertaking. One such digest was Velvet Touch, the offspring of the glossy Velvet, which made a gallant attempt to produce a publication that was “hot enough” to satisfy the most jaded sexual tastes of its largely male audience, yet tried, at the same time, to appear mainstream enough so that women would also purchase the product. If the publishers were lucky enough, they would get the news dealer to place Velvet Touch as close to Cosmopolitan as possible, hoping to attract a bit of a crossover audience.
The publisher at one point was kind enough to place an ad of mine on the magazine’s back cover (which he was unable to sell anyway). In bold type, it screamed – “FORCED INTO SEX ONBOARD A FLYING SAUCER.” I can’t even remember what I was trying to sell!
As it turned out, most of the names on the letters I edited showed that Velvet Touch never really reached far into the women’s market. And while nobody got paid for writing the letters the magazine published, we did have a couple of contributors who seemed to maintain an active sex life and were willing to air their more mundane sexcapades in our pages – more mundane, that is, when compared to the adventures with the sexterrestrials we now find ourselves confronted by.
ROMANTIC RENDEZVOUS ALIEN-STYLE
Reviewing the details of Howard Menger’s romantic interlude with the woman on the rock, this tale positions itself, if anywhere, in the category of a tender alien relationship, which you might think actually belongs as part of the relatively new publishing genre known as “Alien Human Romance,” but we have proof that the New Jersey contactee beat these would-be modern alien romance novelists by several decades. A quick trip to Amazon.com will find such pandering titles you can place in your internet shopping cart as “Alien Pregnant Bride,” “His Alien Virgin,” “Alien Savior” (from the cover, this book looks like it takes a bi-sexual approach to ET lovemaking), and “Alien Sex 101,” which I would have every reason to believe is too much of a primer for our more advanced sexterrestrial hip readers.
Note: My personal “alien out of sexual control” award has to go to “His Human Slave,” described thusly: “COLLARED AND CAGED, HIS HUMAN SLAVE AWAITS HER TRAINING . . . She’s a human, born into slavery . . . Prince Zander bought and paid for her, which means she’s his now. His to use. His to impregnate. Because according to a gene-matching program, she’ll produce the best offspring.”
And you thought alien anal probes couldn’t easily be outdone in this paranormal universe where almost anything seems plausible?
By the way, on a cosmic scale of one to ten, I am told you merely have to look to your average star voyagers from the Pleiades to find the most beautiful spacewomen around (sorry you weren’t so lucky, Mr. Boas).
THE WITCHES AND THE EAGER STUDENT OF THE OCCULT
During the early 1970s, I had organized one of the first metaphysical schools in the country. We had some really talented psychics and occultists teaching a variety of classes on anything from astral projection to reading the tarot cards. People were passing through our doors all day and night to sign up for classes.
I guess I got to meet a lot of unusual people in those days. Like my two female witch friends, Walli Elmlark and the very buxom Witch Hazel (she really had her name changed, she showed me her driver’s license). Walli was the White Witch of New York who wrote a column for the rock magazine Circus. She introduced me to David Bowie and invited King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp to join us in a sky-watch. Hazel, on the other hand, wore black clothing, rode a motorcycle, had a pilot’s license and once or twice sketched out scenes from her past life where she had been tortured – half naked – at the hands of some ruthless male priests. Completely bizarro. But when the pot smoke drifted away, everyone seemed quite normal.

One of the occult school patrons by the name of Ruthie signed up for a couple of classes, and, since she was spending a few hours a week hanging around, we would chit-chat from time to time. She was a rather stocky brunette with curves in all the right places. Hey, I was young and single and had an eye for the ladies, though I made it a policy not to ask out those who entered through our doors who were presumably coming for spiritual guidance.
Ruthie was the type of person who had no problem discussing whatever was on her mind.
One day she told me something was troubling her and, as I was the chief guru, she wanted my opinion.
She told me before signing up for classes at our school that she had attended the functions of a group uptown who had been a lot “darker” in their approach to the occult. Not that we were what you would call “New Age Bliss Bunnies,” but most of our group had aspirations to do good with the paranormal talents they possessed and would even sometimes turn down those who openly said they were seeking psychic revenge on someone who they felt had wronged them or tried to steal their lover away. Things can get rather messy on the astral plane and you don’t know who – or what – you might attract, so “better to leave well enough alone” seemed to be the order of the day at the New York School of Occult Arts and Sciences.
“I met this rather handsome guy over at the other group who was channeling UFO entities on a regular basis,” Ruthie said. “I liked the messages he was receiving. In fact, he looked like one of the messengers from space he called Ashtar.”
As we’ve mentioned, these Nordic, humanoid, Ultra-Terrestrials are typically male, six to seven feet tall with long blond hair, blue eyes and skin tones ranging from fair to tanned, perhaps a bit on the feminine or androgynous side, sort of like a real Ziggy Stardust. They were mostly benevolent and most often possessed telepathic powers that would enable them to read the minds of humans.
Ruthie told me she liked being in the company of this individual since he seemed so “spiritually aware” – and she admitted she was digging on his good looks. After a channeling session at “the other” psychic facility across town, the gentleman (I can’t remember what she told me his actual name was, but let’s just call him “Paul”) asked Ruthie to come back to his apartment to continue the evening’s discussion on UFOs and the arrival of the space brotherhood, which he predicted would happen within a few years (a lot of us thought this might be the case in the early to mid-1970s).
Paul went on weaving the philosophical beliefs of the space brethren into the conversation as they sat sharing the same couch. As the night went on a “warm feeling” overtook the girl, who months later was telling me of her night on the town with a space channeler. She said she didn’t feel shy and that she was beginning to get turned on to him being so close. She was not about to refuse his advances if he tried to make one.
But something more “inappropriate” transpired.
“Before I knew it – and without warning me – Paul slipped into a trance state and began to channel some unearthly entity. But it wasn’t the gentle Ashtar, it was someone who spoke in a more powerful, more uneven, authoritarian voice. He said most earthlings were weak and could not stand up for themselves if an attack from space were to take place. In particular, he said the women of our species were easily manipulated and with that he put his hands on me and began to caress my body harshly but in a masterful way.”
Luckily, there was no one around us as she related her story or I might have been the one to have become embarrassed over the conversation. Ruthie insisted she had little to say about the outcome of the awkward situation she found herself in. “It felt as if I had been partially hypnotized or was under the channeler/spaceman’s mental control. I could not pull away from him as he pressed me to the couch and had his way.”
Ruthie insists the sex was “sort of consensual,” in that she was not drugged nor was she physically forced ultimately to do anything against her will. In fact, she admitted to me that it was the best orgasm she ever had and if offered a ride onboard one of their craft she would not hesitate to take a trip to their home planet. I think she said this half in jest, but maybe she wasn’t kidding, a possibility I considered when I had a chance to think about our conversation later.
Ruthie says she was really “feeling the vibes” from the channeler, but once he came out of the state of mind he was in he didn’t seem to show a great deal of interest in carrying on with the conversation which they then finished up rather quickly.
“I attended a few more of his channeling sessions, and Paul was very civil to me after that night on the couch,” Ruthie remembered. “But the group we were involved in dissolved eventually and I didn’t see him around after that.”
Ruthie wanted to know if she should feel guilty about experiencing a great deal of sexual satisfaction with the entity who almost seemed to possess the body of the UFO channel. I told her it probably wasn’t a good idea to be put into such a compromising position as one might never know until it’s too late what they had gotten themselves into. It could be that the entity was demonic, even if the channeler was not a black magician like Aleister Crowley.
I guess she took my advice as she never brought up the subject again.
I found that such cases as this were not that unusual; though it’s not something most workshop attendees felt comfortable in talking about – only at Tim Beckley’s NY Occult Center it seemed to be OK!

I don’t know how many guys can say they had a professional wrestler as a lady friend. It can’t be a hell of a lot but it certainly is an attention getter when the lady just happens to be over six feet tall and you are just five six.
Susanne Miller — AKA Vivian St. John.
Susanne Miller — known to wrestling fans worldwide as Vivian St. John — was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1950 and managed to wander into my life some twenty years later while directing a rather unorthodox occult center than offered psychic readings, seance participation , Ouija board sales and the opportunity to be hypnotized and put into a trance. We had some of the leading lights in the paranormal and UFO worlds lecture for our group (we rented large halls for some of the talks which would garner 200-300 people if properly promoted) and if you were a novice and wanted to expand upon your psychic talents you could join a class on astral projection or Tarot cards.
Our relationship spanned several decades and was certainly “complicated” a term popularized on Face Book. She also was featured at least twice amidst a broken mirror on the cover of the long defunct newsstand magazine “Beyond Reality.” Some people thought Sue or Vivian, pardon me, was a Satanist. She did read cards, did some occult “root work” and offered spiritual counseling. Vivian considered herself a “Luciferian.” She did not sacrifice, she loved animals (even the three dobermens who tried to chew up my arm cause they thought i wanted to snatch the food that had been left in the frig for them). A short definition for those fundamentalist who think Satan is behind anything to do with the occult:
“Luciferianism is a belief system that venerates the essential characteristics that are affixed to Lucifer. The tradition, influenced by Gnosticism, usually reveres Lucifer not as the devil, but as a liberator, a guardian or guiding spirit, or even the true god as opposed to Jehovah.”

Viv worked a lot with Talismanic Manic Magick and symbols, which I would equate with the magi Aleister Crowley’s brand of the esoteric. You’d have to read up on this yourself. One night — perhaps with more than the “average” libation in our systems — Sue decided that I should become a vessel for some unknown (to me at least) spirit and adorned my body with enough magickal symbols to make me an honorary member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. As her daughter once noted: “My mom was a very eccentric person all the way around, however you cut the cake. Nothing really added shock value when it came to her.”
Vivian died several years ago, but I certainly have not forgotten her nor have those she toured professional with while “queen of the ring.” Vivian loved to travel, went off to Japan several times, and had a fondness for grappling for sure. She wore her wrestling boots — which she loved — up till the end when she died of a heart disease which she had been suffering with for a number of years. Her friends stuck to her side even in the depressingly climactic days. There was, Susan “Tex” Green who had been her tag team partner. Leilani Kai, who moved into Vivian’s home for the last months of her life, taking care of her old friend, while she was sadly hooked up to an oxygen tank, confined to her bedroom. Another individual who shared in the care taking was Tatevik Hunanyan, Lelani Kai’s protege whose who antics in the ring can be caught on YouTube recorded while she was entertaining the crowds as a GLOW girl.
Tat shared Vivian’s interest in the paranormal and says that her edgy in ring personification was adapted in part from occult wisdom St. John gave to her.
I don’t believe I ever took seriously the idea that I should enter professional wrestling. I did think of becoming a crazed manager on the outside of the ring akin to the Grand Wizard who in “real life” was an accomplished artist. Sue/Viv had given me a painting of a clown he had painted which I cherished but cant find these days. Truth is, I have enough trouble jumping rope, never mind jumping into the ring over one.
Oh and Walter “Killer Kowalski was a reader of our books. He used to call on the phone to see what was new. He enjoyed Tesla and the Philadelphia Experiment and once sent me a signed copy of his auto biography and a B&W photo which I have on the wall for inspiration. As a side note, the “killer” — known for his specialized “claw hold” — was a vegetarian and a believer in Holistic health.
I did attempt to manage a couple of would be grapplers myself, but they chickened out before I could get them into training. They realized that while wrestling today may be part entertainment, the other half is real enough to kill you. My ideal match between “The Brick,” whom I was going to take to champion stardom, and the Undertaker, is a thing of past and never materialized except in a long forgotten dream.

The following is an article dealing with the time the Ouija Board spoke with clarity to both Vivian and I. No devilish spirits took over. We were not possessed. But we did find out some things that we could not have known otherwise.

THE DAY THE BOARD SPELLED OUT DISASTER

The Ouija Board has always been a controversial means of attempting contact with those in the “spirit world.” Not too long ago it was used as a tool exclusively by mediums and psychics. However in recent years it has become more of a parlor game with sales reaching close to two million according to a leading game company which says the Ouija Board is their hottest selling item.
I have worked the Ouija many times with varying results. Frequently messages are nothing more than what I call “psychic gibberish” with words being mispelled, and phrases and sentences making no sense to anyone. Other times the board reacts positively and spells out things of importance.
Some experts feel that if you treat the board seriously and ask questions of importance you will always be rewarded accordingly. Ask it foolish things and unimportant questions and it will respond thusly. How it works is also open to debate.
There are those who believe the Ouija is a direct telephone line with individuals who have passed on. Others express the idea that what comes through is simply telepathic in nature. As far as I’m concerned there is evidence for both beliefs.
I hadn’t seen Suzanne Miller since the 1970s though one could hardly forget her striking appearance.
Standing all of six feet and dressed in fringe jacket and tight leather pants, Suzanne had a way of attracting attention no matter what the circumstances. I might also point out that Suzanne was no “wimp.” In fact, she carried herself like a biker chick and no doubt this had a lot to do with her subsequent career as a female wrestler and her climb to a top ten position on the lady’s wrestling circuit using the name Vivian St. John.

But the years have cooled Suzanne down – somewhat! Currently, she can be found several days a week doing psychic readings at New Age Books and Things, a well established metaphysical center located at 4401 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
When I first met Suzanne she was just startling to develop her clairvoyant abilities, a gift that she told me had been handed down from her mother’s side of the family; In her early twenties then, she was dedicated enough in her task that I had no qualms about asking her to work at the New York School of Occult Arts and Sciences which I had founded and where many of the top psychics in the U.S. cut their teeth in the 60s and 70s. Suzanne always felt that her mission was to educate people to the reality of the non material realms she knew to exist all around us, but just out of sight of the majority of folks who closed their minds to this normally invisible universe.
Herbs and oils lined her heavily packed book cases and enlargements of Tarot cards hung on the walls of her west side apartment in Manhattan. After chatting over a glass of wine, Suzanne asked if I was interested in working the Ouija Board with her; something she felt she was becoming very adept at as her psychic abilities continued to grow. As it turned out, she felt certain that the spirits had something to tell her as she-had been ill at ease all day wondering what had happened to her husband who was due back in town the previous evening but hadn’t even called to indicate there was a problem.
After taking the Ouija down and dusting it with powder so that the wooden planchette would move freely should a message start to come through, we moved to the floor with our legs crossed and the board on our knees.
Suzanne was concerned over her husband’s whereabouts as Stanley had told her he would return from a trip upstate by early evening. It was already past 3:00 A.M. and he had not arrived as planned. Because of this she suggested asking the Ouija to give us an idea where he was and if there had been any trouble.
Touching the tips of our fingers to the planchette I selected to begin the questioning by asking if there was “anyone” present. The planchette moved directly to the word “yes.” Under normal conditions the planchette will start to move slowly at first and increase speed as communication becomes stronger. It works akin to adjusting a radio receiver to a particular frequency.
After a few “test” questions devised to make sure our subconscious wasn’t playing tricks we asked the whereabouts of Suzanne’s husband. “He will be in a car accident”- Suzanne’s face turned pale and I could see she was visibly concerned as the board continued to spell out its message. “Don’t worry, Stanley will not be hurt badly.”
After verifying the message (we usually make the “spirit” spell out the communication twice), we asked who we were in contact with and under what conditions he had left this world. The reply came that the spirit had also been in a car accident-but was not as lucky as Stanley would be as he was killed in the crash. “Where” we quizzed and the reply came “not far from Cincinnati, Ohio.” Further probing as to name, address and age (which we 40 could later check for verification) did not get a meaningful response.
Susan thanked whoever it was that had come through and put the board away for the night.

The next day found Suzanne’s husband still not home. To try and quiet her worst fears I attempted to calm her by rationalizing that since they had just moved into a new apartment and since they did not have a phone there was no way he could call to tell her how he had been delayed. I promised to return that night to see if Stanley had come back yet.
When I walked through the door later I saw Stanley alright-but he didn’t look at all well. Right in the middle of his forehead was one of the largest red lumps I have ever seen. “Boy, I’m lucky to be alive.”
I must have really looked shocked as he elaborated.
“I was returning from upstate and this car jumped into the lane in back of me and hit my automobile at 50 miles per hour from behind. The car was totally destroyed and I went forward smashing my head against the windshield.”
An ambulance had rushed him to Tuxedo Memorial Hospital, in Tuxedo, New York where he was admitted in fair condition.
“See,” Suzanne said, erasing any skepticism I still might have about the powers of the Ouija Board, “the spirits don’t lie!” And she was right – this time it hadn’t!
Stanley had verified the message by his very presence and with a lump on his head and the deep cuts on his arms and chest as evidence that an accident had happened and that he was fortunate not to have been killed.
Next Monday morning, I placed a call to Lila,the promotional director for the firm that booked music, particularly rock “n’ roll groups into several theaters in the metropolitan area. When she got on the phone I could sense that the normally high-spirited lady was disturbed over something.
Pressed as to what was irritating her, Lila explained that one of her best friends was killed over the weekend. I told her how sorry I was and asked for more details. “He was driving toward Cincinnati….”
My heart skilled a beat and a cold chill ran up my spine – hadn’t our “spirit” on the board told us he had been killed in Ohio? Could it have possibly been Lila’s friend coming through?

Lila has been a friend for sometime and on occasions I have done psychic readings for her, picking up what I thought might be things important to her. About a month before this incident I called her one night to tell her about an impression I was receiving. I told her that I foresaw trouble in the area of her eyes.
Lila remarked that she had never had difficulties in the vicinity of her eyes but would take note if anything developed.
The next time I saw her, four or five days later, Lila was seated in the box office during a performance I was attending. Her right eye had a patch over it and her brow was a mass of tape and bandages.
“Don’t worry,” she calmed me by extending her hand, “the doctor says the swelling will go away in a few more days. An infection had developed 48 hours after my late night telephone call.
Lila could only shake her head and remark how “right” I had been in what I had seen. Right away this showed me that Lila was an excellent subject to pick up from (for unknown reasons some people are just impossible to “read”) . But why had her friend been able to get through to us so easily?
During a later conversation Lila remarked she would like to meet Suzanne and asked where she lived.
I gave her the address and she just looked at me for a moment. “153,” she nearly shouted after I had given her the apartment building number. “My friend who was killed lived at 151 for more than two years and was sorry he had to leave. It was his favorite apartment.”

As far as I was concerned this clinched it. Lila’s friend had died the night we sat down to use the Ouija Board. The spirit had accurately predicted Stanley’s accident and told us accurately where he had been killed. The fact that Lila’s friend had once been Susan’s neighbor I believe increased the power coming through the Ouija to the two of us operating as receivers.
Not only had this mystical device predicted a disaster but it went a long way in proving to me that communication with another realm is possible.
And as for Suzanne Miller…well, when’s she not knee deep in giving readings at New Age Books and Things or doing private counseling over the phone from her home, she says she still often reflects on the night the Ouija proved to be an accurate device utilized by one dearly departed soul to speak freely to us from the “other side” of life.
Though not a total believer, I have to admit the entire incident left me wondering about the true capabilities of the Ouija Board.

Authors note: Although the information contained in this article can be applied worldwide, for the sake of brevity I have for the most part concentrated on what has emerged from the USA. Therefore, bearing this in mind I have confined my observations to what is acknowledged by many researchers as being at least within the realms of what is possible, you have to, because one you start to go down this extremely slippery rabbit hole, all sorts of unexpected side avenues open up and some of them are probably best left unexplored.
I am reminded of a saying by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, ‘Battle not with monsters lest ye become a monster and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you’, the emphasis is mine, and believe me the subject of Ufology is indeed a deep, dark abyss and once you start looking, and I do mean really looking, the psychological fallout can be genuinely unsettling and have terrifying spiritual connections.
A word of warning though, keep in mind some of what follows is derived from fundamentalist thinking and theology, which tends to base its opinions on a fairly unique interpretation of scripture. I would like to express my thanks to Tim Green Beckley and Tim Schwartz from Conspiracy Journal and also John J. Ventre the multi-state director of MUFON, for their help and suggestions in preparing this article. As a final comment, please be aware that I wrote this very recently after coming across a new piece in the UFO jigsaw and I have no views or opinions one way or another on what follows. I have written it based on the information to hand and I have supplied sources that anyone who is interested can follow up and make their own judgment on whether it is valid or not.
Ufology and The Collins Elite
The “Extraterrestrial Hypothesis” (ETH) theorizes that UFOs are spaceships from other planets with a technology so advanced that it can be indistinguishable from magick.
Since its inception in the 1940’s, modern Ufology has been beset by various ideas and opinions about what UFOs are, where they originate and who (or what) they contain. According to the most commonly accepted belief, UFOs are extraterrestrial spacecraft originating in far-off star systems that visit our planet for a whole host of reasons. Some of the reasons are entirely altruistic and benign and some considerably less so, but at the core of this particular subset of opinion called the extra terrestrial hypothesis (ETH), lies the conviction that all UFOs, irrespective of their point of origin, are nuts and bolts machines piloted by beings that seem to be more or less humanoid in appearance. This is fair enough, but seems to largely ignore many other aspects of the phenomenon. For example: these objects (and their assumed occupants) appear and disappear at will, pass through solid walls, can manifest to individuals in a group yet remain invisible to other group members and a whole host of other attributes that seem to owe more to ghosts and other spiritual beings than anything else.
However, those who subscribe to the ETH claim that this is due to vastly superior technology rather than any paranormal attributes: and that said it is arguable that any display of some aspects of an unfamiliar technology (as the late Arthur C Clarke rightly pointed out) might well be viewed as either paranormal or even magick. On the other hand there are a small number of groups who, as we shall see, insist, rightly or wrongly, that UFOs and their occupants are not physical in any accepted sense at all, but are in fact manifestations of Satan and his minions. The purpose of these UFOs is the ultimate perdition (spiritual ruin) of the human race and those who promote this concept claim that their ideas stem from what they believe is the ultimate source of all truth, i.e. the Holy Bible, which they quote to substantiate their claims.
The book of Enoch describes “The Watchers”, a group of angels sent to Earth to watch over humans. 200 of those angels committed transgression by having sex with humans, creating a hybrid race of giants called the Nephilim.
This also ties into the supposed corruption of the human race eons ago by fallen angels (more ET’s perhaps)? as mentioned in Genesis 6:4; Jude 1:6 and then progresses into the future and the endtimes. Once we go down this route we encounter a race of ancient hybrids, i.e. the ‘Nephilim’ who were allegedly the mutant offspring of human women and the fallen angels. It is thought that these are the giants mentioned in the bible. This is the mindset that also readily embraces concepts such as the machinations of the New World Order (NWO) and the Illuminati, as with the UFO phenomenon in general it is open season for any idea one wishes to attach to it.
In addition there is an even less well known schism of belief from a similar source, saying that UFOs, while still spiritual, are created and crewed by angels, so you pretty much pays your money and takes your choice. From this it is obvious that, while UFOs and Ufology may be relatively marginalised belief systems, there is sufficient scope within them for various strands of belief to grow and develop. I say this because based on what we have just seen; some years ago I was in conversation (via a medium) with an entity that claimed to be extraterrestrial and said it came from where, quote, ‘souls were created’.
There is not a great deal one can say to that, except that having worked with this particular medium during many investigations I had faith in her abilities; so despite some reservations far be it for me to pass judgment. Besides, there is always the nagging doubt that this entity, whatever it was, was not necessarily telling the truth and this is something that has previously been commented on by other serious and open-minded UFO researchers. I say this because within the UFO community there is a surprisingly high level of intolerance to any thoughts or opinions that fail to stay within the narrow ETH mindset.
The Intelligence Agenda
Starting in 2008, the Pentagon quietly set up a $22 million program to investigate reports of UFOs.
Although officially denied, ridiculed and rejected by most governments and intelligence agencies, this ridicule conceals a very deep rooted concern that UFOs and what they represent may in fact have more basis in reality than they care to admit. This has been seen in the various governmental attempts to prove or disprove the phenomena one way or another, especially in the USA. In the USA, projects like ‘Grudge’ and ‘Blue Book’, the formation of the Robertson Panel and the Condon Report etc, etc are all examples of this and it has been argued that what emerged from these groups was nothing more than propaganda using disinformation, misinformation, spin and barefaced lies. Even the much vaunted book, the so-called ‘smoking gun’, i.e. ‘The Day After Roswell’, is a prime example of this bare-faced subterfuge. Government files on the UFO enigma continue to surface, one of the more recent examples was the release of formerly classified information from the UK intelligence services in the Ministry of Defence (MOD), but nowhere in the files is there any evidence that they are extraterrestrial. Even stonewall cases like the Rendlesham Forest incident of the 1980’s despite the witness evidence being pretty much positive and overwhelming are brushed off using varying specious excuses.
All that these reports were able to say was, officially at least and despite the fact that the intelligence agencies regularly used Ufology as a screen to conceal their own agendas, there was no truth in any of it and the UFO phenomenon lay entirely in the minds of the general public. It was founded on little more than overactive imaginations and mistaken identity compounded with a desire for some mystery and intrigue. It is possible that some of this subterfuge might have stemmed from a real fear that to admit that we really were visited by non-human races originating outside our solar system might create widespread fear, panic and civil disorder. It is also likely to have caused many people to question the authority and moral certainty of the churches, something that would serve to further exacerbate an increasingly unstable situation.
The Collins Elite Emerges
However, despite the artifice and denials there is the nagging suspicion that their investigations revealed that at least some UFOs might be genuine and this knowledge could somehow be harnessed for military advantage. This is probably true, because given the ultra-pragmatic way in which intelligence agencies operate (especially the CIA), obtaining anything they think will be of use to their country militarily becomes imperative, so how and where they obtain this information is secondary to the methods used; i.e. the end invariably justifies the means. Since any information would have to be properly evaluated, monitored and thought through in a dispassionate manner, a steering group was formed comprising representatives of all interested parties.
In the USA, since all branches of the military plus the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) were obviously involved anyway, it was a relatively simple matter to draft in representatives under the stewardship of, initially, the FBI then the omnipresent CIA and eventually perhaps the NSA as well. This semi-official subgroup which was created in July 1952 allegedly became nicknamed by those involved, ‘The Collins Elite’. Although it starting out evaluating the threat of UFOs as one based on actual machines, given the makeup and views held by some influential members of this group, this changed dramatically and the first question to ask is how much truth is in what they said and could the CIA have accepted this and allowed it to develop?
Attitudes Harden
According to a book, ‘Final Events’, written by author and researcher Nick Redfern, a British citizen currently residing in the USA, the answer is yes, they could. For many years the CIA was not only out of control, it was beyond control and functioned more or less autonomously as a separate government that was a law entirely unto itself, something greatly helped by its lavish and often unaccountable funding. Even their notional boss, the President of the USA, had no idea what was going on and given some of the shady and frequently murderous operations they instigated and sometimes funded, this was probably just as well; it is a process called ‘plausible deniability’, a term first used by the CIA during the Kennedy administration. Regarding the way in which the CIA operated, it has been stated that when Area 51 was first created it was handed to the CIA to operate rather than the Navy or the Air Force and in 1958 the then President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who had made the mistake of allowing the base to function without Presidential oversight, was flatly denied both access to the base and information regarding what was going on there. In retaliation the President promptly threatened to send in an army group from Colorado to dismantle the place. In response to this tactic he was grudgingly given the information he requested, but he never did wrest control of the base back from the CIA.
It has been suggested that the UFO phenomena could be supernatural and/or demonic instead of nuts and bolts spaceships from other planets.
Redfern goes on to state that the findings of the Collins Elite strongly infer that the ET presence was not just the result of visits by nuts and bolts flying machines and their occupants, instead it was probably demonic/satanic nature instead. In fact it went as far as say categorically that there was never any contact between extraterrestrials and humans, it has always been supernatural and/or demonic. We should remember that this covert unit, although it started out with a fairly specific remit, rapidly became increasingly influenced by some of its more single-minded members who may themselves have been implementing an agenda directed from outside the group.
Strangely enough this opinion chimes with comments made by the late ethno-botanist and psychonaught Dr. Terence McKenna, who once said that, ‘We are part of a symbiotic relationship with something which disguises itself as an extra-terrestrial invasion so as not to alarm us.’ He never did elaborate on what he meant by that, but it probably refers to the entities, sometimes called ‘machine-elves’ frequently seen by people who use substances like dimethyltryptamine (DMT) the active ingredient of the traditional and powerful hallucinogen Ayahuasca. This would certainly fit with the observations made by members of The Collins Elite and this kind of thinking is surprisingly common in some areas of the UFO community who see the phenomenon as more akin to the occult that anything physical.
It is a view also shared by members of the fundamentalist Christian right-wing of American politics and in some cases they have claimed that UFOs were piloted, not by demons, but by angels as an adjunct to the much prophesied ‘end times’. However, the astute observation made by Dr McKenna fits exactly with a statement allegedly made by The Collins Elite to the effect that, “We have in our midst a cold-hearted and sinister intelligence of demonic origins that masquerades as alien.” Although the wording is slightly different, the meaning is identical. Before we examine The Collins Elite in a little more detail, we should consider some of the background and this involves looking at other, less well-known projects undertaken by the CIA and the other US intelligence agencies.
As well as investigating the possibility that the earth was being visited more or less at will by non-human entities, they were also extremely interested in highly controversial occult experiments being carried out by an pioneering rocket scientist and co-founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Jack Parsons and Ron Hubbard in the days before Hubbard decided to make money by inventing the cultish quasi-religion of Scientology. Hubbard spent the last years of his life on the run, keeping the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) off his back. The IRS wanted the tax due on the money in the Scientology bank accounts. However Hubbard, who considered his creation a religion, would not pay it. Eventually the Scientologists, after the death of Hubbard and now being run by David Miscavige, managed to effectively blackmail the IRS into granting them religious status allowing them to avoid paying tax.
The Connection with Magick
The Ahnenerbe Symbol.
In a way this unlikely connection between the military and magick is not all that surprising and resonates with claims made a couple of decades earlier about the Nazi High Command during the Second World War and the possibility that they too were involved in magical rituals based on esoteric research into the origins of the Aryan race conducted by covert, quasi-scientific groups like the Ahnenerbe, which was founded in 1935 by SS chief Heinrich Himmler and others. Whether or not any of this information was used as part of the Nazi master-plan for victory in WWII is open to debate, but there is no doubt that Himmler et all did have some really bizarre ideas about how this knowledge might be ‘weaponised’.
This ties into similar claims made in the book, ‘The Spear of Destiny’ by Trevor Ravenscroft, an extremely controversial publication first released in 1972, that the lance that pierced the side of Christ on the cross in St John’s account of the crucifixion, was eventually appropriated by Adolph Hitler in an attempt to use its supposed immense latent power using some unspecified method, in his plan for world domination. It may be that given the reputation of the spear just having it in his possession might enable his scheme, however according to the legend losing the spear resulted in the death of whoever had it, something that seems to have been fulfilled when Hitler finally shot himself in the head with a pistol.
Under the influence of both mescaline and hashish, Aleister Crowley conducted an ancient ritual and encountered a creature that called itself Lam.
In the case of the aforementioned Parsons and Hubbard, in 1946/47 they attempted to create a magickal dimensional portal to allow a divine feminine archetype, in fact the goddess Babylon, access to our reality. Other opinions hold that it was not any goddess, but some kind of demonic child. They did this using the ‘Babalon Working’, which was a variation on a ritual that had been attempted nearly fifty years previously by the noted late Victorian British occultist and eccentric Aleister Crowley, when he used a ritual called the Alamantra Working. It may be relevant that Crowley manifested an entity he called ‘Lam’ while undertaking this project (he drew a picture of it) and there is no question that Lam looks remarkably like an alien ‘Grey’ and it was after this that these (and other) beings started to be seen on a regular basis when alleged contact with ET’s took place.
Crowley was well aware of what the two men were attempting and warned Parsons about his deep mistrust of Hubbard and his motives; something that proved remarkably prescient when Hubbard absconded shortly after with a large sum of cash taken from the bank account he shared with Parsons, plus Parson’s current mistress in tow. Unsurprisingly, Scientologists fail to find room to mention any of this in their sickly hagiographies of Hubbard. In fact Crowley had a great fondness for Parsons, who he regarded as a kind of standard-bearer of his brand of magick, it would be closer to the truth to say that he thought of Jack Parsons as the son he never had. In a strange example of possible synchronicity, Parsons died at home in 1952 when a mysterious explosion in his garage ended his life. It has been suggested that the explosion was due to his experiments with highly volatile chemicals involved in making rocket fuel, (this was after all what he did for a living) either that or, as has also been implied, he was trying to create a ‘homunculus’ or artificial being and his experiments went badly wrong, either way he died.
Is Any of This Feasible?
Again we should pause to consider whether or not any of this is feasible, because if fractures in the nature of reality can be brought about by the use of words, symbols and rituals, this may find a resonance with the arcane symbols and formulae used by quantum physicists in the present day. Examples of this can be found in the laboratories where such strange, albeit cutting edge experiments are carried out, because it has been found that what the participants in these experiments think about what is being attempted can directly affect the outcome. It’s called the ‘observer effect’ and much to the chagrin of the hard-line rationalists it is proven to occur and there is no obvious answer why, or at least not one that they find acceptable.
This by any measure indicates that the ‘observer effect’ is a form of magick, the very thing that physicists would reject out of hand, but how else to explain it? Actually Aleister Crowley seems to have summed this up pretty well several decades earlier when he defined magick as “The Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will”, in effect the ability to edit reality. Once again it seems surprising that the intelligence agencies should involve themselves in such arcane practices, because one would imagine that as the hard headed realists they have to be they would dismiss this as sheer fantasy, but not so.
Is it possible that factions within military and intelligence agencies were/are involved with occult and magical practices that contacted entities from beyond this reality?
One can easily cite the ‘Stargate Project’ which involved, among other things, remote viewing and other psychically inspired attempts to gain an advantage over a perceived enemy as examples of the lengths they will go to. However, it is at this point we find ourselves slipping into other parallel claims of mind-bending experiments allegedly conducted at places like Montauk and we have to be careful before dismissing this as sheer conjecture and nonsense, if, for no other reason than there was a military base at Montauk and its remains are still to there to this day and, some people say, also the unintentional remnants and residue of the experiments supposedly conducted there. These experiments seem to interlink closely with certain occult and magical practices involving time-travel amongst other claims and contact with entities that did not originate in this reality. So, how does the Collins Elite tie into this?
If we consider that this group was set up to see if any military advantage could be gleaned from contact with extraterrestrials and came to the conclusion that these entities were not ET but demonic, we can also assume that they were prepared to do whatever it took to make this work. Among the projects bordering on the magickal being undertaken was the development of such devices as ‘psychotronic weapons’, which could allow the remote influencing of how individuals operate and think, plus a range of other technologies that at first sight seem impossible. By our standards they are and that includes various spin-offs from work already being conducted on other types of electromagnetic weapons, but once you enter into the dark world of magick then literally anything becomes possible. As an adjunct to this, there was another sinister CIA funded mind control project called MK-OFTEN (an adjunct to the better known and equally notorious MK-ULTRA). For MK-OFTEN, the CIA employed the services of Satanists, witches, psychics and other occultists as part of their efforts in MK-ULTRA at establishing a reliable and effective method of mind control. This being the case then it is entirely feasible that they would plumb any depths in their search for a military advantage.
The Vatican
The Catholic church has been pondering over whether there are more technologically and intellectually advanced sentient beings elsewhere in the universe.
As if this was not enough, there are claims by Catholic researchers that the Vatican has, or at least had, plans afoot to prepare its flock for the arrival of an extraterrestrial saviour, which seems to resonate with the idea that Jesus was an ET. Again we have this odd, synchronistic link between aliens and angels and the notion that the human race is the result of extraterrestrial DNA splicing. It seems logical that an organisation as powerful and influential as the Vatican must have some sort of plan in place to deal with the possibility that if there is life on other planets and that life has no concept of a creator God, what happens then? It has been seriously mooted by the Curia that in that case it is the duty of the Church to make them aware of God and bring them salvation: good luck with that. Again, much of this, although it may have elements of fact, is also based on hearsay. It’s rather like the so-called ‘evidence’ for the reality of UFOs and especially secret underground bases that comes from ‘high ranking’, but almost always unnamed service personnel who dare not reveal their identities for fear of deadly reprisals.
This evidence might as well not be quoted for it cannot be checked; in truth it is evidence of nothing except speculation, but for now that will have to do. However it is a fact that Pope John Paul on the 23rd of October, 1996, while speaking to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences plenary session at the Vatican, stated that Darwin’s Theory of Evolution was a reality and in doing so reduced the biblical accounts of how we got here to nothing more than myth. How this will play out in the years to come will remain to be seen, but as a word of caution; according to the prophecies of the Irish St Malachi the Pope coming after Pope Benedict i.e. Pope Francis, will be the last one and what comes after that is anyone’s guess, but according to Malachi it is the ‘end times’…again!
From what we have seen it may be likely that the Collins Elite is real and still exists and their task was to monitor any attempts at making contact with whatever exists on the other side of reality, be it extraterrestrial, ultra-dimensional, supernatural or whatever form it takes. If that is the case then they would have been extremely interested in what the likes of Jack Parsons and Ron Hubbard (and others) were trying to do. As already stated, it would have mattered naught where this information came from or how it was obtained, as long as they could harness and make effective use of it. One of the papers purportedly coming from this group was entitled ‘Deception and UFOs: What we Believe and Why’ emerged in 1998 and in it there is a distillation of their findings since their inception in 1952. What is basically says is that the earth is being prepared for Armageddon and that human beings are little more that containers for souls that can be harvested in the service of Satan. The only way to salvation is, apparently, to embrace Christ as your redeemer and all will be well.
One of the strangest aspects of what came under their oversight was the possibility that a project was underway driven by these non-humans to create hybrids of humans and aliens to serve the antichrist and Satan during the endtimes, the time of Armageddon in fact. Never forget that fundamentalist Christians we encountered earlier fully believe this, along with the ‘rapture’, can and will happen and even the ultra-rational realm of science has its fair share of them. So yes, the Collins Elite probably are real, and seem to be still in existence, for in the murky world of intelligence gathering anything that works, however distasteful can and will be used, although this knowledge is seldom on public display; it is how ‘black projects’ work. Time as always will tell.

UFOs, DEMONS AND SECRET SOCIETIES IN NAZI GERMANY

*** Did the Allies really achieve a final victory in World War II? What if the lingering traces of the Nazis’ collective madness lives on in the form of hidden technology operated by people still sympathetic to and held in the thrall of the murderous undergirding of the Third Reich?
*** It is still a debatable question: Were the Nazis simply maniacs bent on conquering the world? Or were they the chosen instruments of a demonic rebellion against God and his Chosen People, the Jews? Were we dealing with a merely human enemy or something genuinely supernatural and paranormal?
*** Many secrets of time and space may have been revealed to the Nazis by demons transmitting their dark instructions to the beauteous female blondes of the German occult group the Vril. Was the group chosen to candy-coat the coming Deutsche monsters and their high technology of death and misery? Or were they simply unknowing conduits channeling information from a far-off world they knew nothing about? And could it be that the Ultra-terrestrials residing on this distant world were equally unable to comprehend who they were dealing with?
*** It is often said that, basically, channeled information is neutral, just like occult powers. It’s a matter of how you interpret and what you actually do with the information you are giving or receiving. Where does that understanding fit in the story of the Third Reich and their paranormal ambitions?

IN his introduction to “Occult Secrets of the Third Reich,” Timothy Green Beckley opens by asking if World War II will ever really be over.
“Everyone knows that the Allies were victorious over the Axis powers,” Beckley writes. “The U.S. and Great Britain formed an alliance with troops from all over the world to defeat a godless foe who would lay waste to a major part of Europe and leave millions of dead in its wake. Furthermore, it tried to exterminate the whole of European Jewry because the Jews did not live up to the Nazis’ racially ‘superior’ belief system.
“Hitler is considered to have been one of the most evil individuals who ever walked among us,” Beckley continues. “Some see him as the spawn of Satan himself, someone who tapped into an energy so dark and heinous as to defy human expression.”
AN ERUPTION OF DEMONISM INTO HISTORY
Teodoro Rampale says that some historians see Hitler as uniquely evil, wicked beyond even the human capacity for wickedness.
Beckley is not alone in grappling to define the Nazis and their wicked workings in the world. One of the contributing authors to “Occult Secrets of the Third Reich” is Teodoro Rampale, who writes, “Some serious orthodox historians place Hitler outside the spectrum of human behavior – a spectrum that includes the most barbarous of crimes. Hitler is seen by them as uniquely evil, wicked beyond even the human capacity for wickedness. Others, who are inclined to accept the reality of a cosmic evil originating beyond humanity, in some outer darkness eternally forsaken by God, see Hitler and the Nazis as examples of how, given the right circumstances, this Darkness can enter humanity, an ‘eruption of demonism into history.’”
However, Rampale warns, the demonic can easily be confused with insanity.
“One shudders to think,” he writes, “of the number of unfortunates throughout history whose madness was mistaken by their fellows for possession by the forces of Darkness. We can see that the origins of National Socialism can be traced back to volkisch occultists who believed wholeheartedly not only in the existence of a prehistoric Germanic race of super-humans but also that their very superiority had been transmitted through the ages to modern Germans by means of a magically active, pure Aryan blood.”
USING HISTORY AS A WEAPON OF WAR
Which leads us to Olav Phillips and his chapter, “Hitler’s Occult Warrior Monks: The Ahnenerbe,” in which he also discusses history, the art of persuasion and their entanglement with occult beliefs.
“History, as we know it,” Phillips writes, “is a pervasively malleable thing, and, has time has shown us, history has often been used as an ideological tool to support a philosophical or political agenda. World history is rife with examples of historical tampering, such as the near deletion of World War II Japanese aggression in modern Japanese text books, or the downplaying of our own aggression, such as the bombing of Dresden or the use of nuclear devices in combat.”
Phillips writes that we can also add to that list other American atrocities, like the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiments or the government’s experiments with LSD as an interrogation tool.
“But perhaps the most interesting and sinister use of revisionism,” according to Phillips, “belongs to the Warrior Historians of the Third Reich, the Ahnenerbe.”

One more often thinks of a historian as a sort of academic and scholarly fellow who labors quietly at his desk and seeks to gain tenure at his university. But the Nazis were in fact using historians to wage an ideological war mainly in terms of the beliefs of the German people themselves. The leader of the fledgling Schutzstaffel, or SS, Heinrich Himmler, working in concert with other Nazi officials, would create and nurture a mythology that would galvanize the German people behind the sinister beliefs of the upper tier of the Nazi organization.
It was necessary, for use as a recruitment tool for one thing, to demonstrate historical precedent for the Nazis’ claims. It was a precedent, Phillips tells us, derived from theosophy and the deeply occult advisors to the German leaders of the time.
An example of the revisionism that came later is seen in Leni Rienfenstahl’s Nazi epic film, “Triumph of the Will,” which portrayed the SS as knights riding into the Nuremberg rally on horseback, sporting chainmail armor and shields displaying the swastika. Banners flutter in the wind as the “volk,” or German people, stand beside these modern Nazi knights. It was an image that forever reinforced the vision of the SS as the knights of the Third Reich.
The attempt to rewrite history in the Nazis’ favor extended to their racism agenda as well, and also required historical precedent and research – the task of the warrior historians. Meanwhile, the Nazi leadership felt it was crucial to collect religious artifacts, such as the Spear of Destiny, which was said to be the exact relic that was used to pierce the side of Christ as he hung dying on the cross. Owning a piece of Christ’s misery made Hitler feel empowered to fulfill the prophecies of the antichrist in the Book of Revelation and in certain quatrains by Nostradamus.
Phillips explains all this in fascinating detail in “Occult Secrets of the Third Reich,” and one learns that Nazi historians did indeed wage a war of deception and take hold of the very thought processes of the German people. The Nazis’ ability to penetrate the consciousness of the “volk” continues to be a mystery.
Returning to the work of Teodoro Rampale, we are told, “Given that human beings have always been fascinated with the occult and the supernatural, precisely because they promise so much in offering the prospect of a higher meaning to the vagaries of existence, and given also our quest for an answer to the problem of evil, it is only to be expected that many should seek to explain Nazism in terms that transcend the merely human.”
DID THE NAZIS GET HELP FROM THOSE WHO “TRANSCEND THE MERELY HUMAN”?
It has been suggested that the Nazis’ developed a working wingless flying saucer-type craft.
Along with their efforts to rewrite history and dupe their own populace, the Nazis were also waging a technological war behind the scenes. They are said to have developed a working wingless flying saucer-type craft with the help of nonhuman entities that would ensure their victory over the Allies.
“But beyond the mere ability to fly what may still seem like technologically ‘miraculous’ aircraft,” Beckley tells us, “is the haunting, troublesome possibility that the ships also function as time machines, bringing the ability to travel in time within human reach for the first time in recorded history. Devices like Die Glocke (translated as ‘The Bell’) may have been used to bend both space and time and give the Nazis the unthinkable power to explore the past freely and even to CONTROL THE FUTURE. Are we plummeting headlong toward a world under fascist domination – a nightmare in which grinning, sadistic, jackbooted thugs are waiting for us to ‘catch up’ in time with our own predestined subjugation to open worldwide rule by the Nazis, who are possibly hiding out on the surface of the moon or in ‘secret cities’ at the Poles? Do they lie in wait for us as the clock on our freedom runs down?”
The concept is a little tricky, but it involves the idea that the Nazis were able to move into the future and exert total control once they got there. That concept does, of course, sound “fringe” on the surface. But, according to Beckley, we should not assume that the Nazis acted alone in achieving such a feat. They obviously had help from some other “source.” Their contact with distant ETs that they took to be their counterpart – a race of “Aryan Space Brothers” – might have been a major factor in the Nazis’ development of a “secret space program,” which could still be functioning in the world today.
It may also be that these Aryan ETs seized an opportunity to use the fledgling Nazis to their own otherworldly ends. In other words, the aliens made building a time machine simple enough that mere humans, once properly instructed and provided with the raw materials, could accomplish the task sufficiently well in real-world terms.
What their motives were is open to dispute and debate. Some see the Aryan “Space Brothers” as friendly visitors from the future, while others wonder why they would want to share their secrets with a very negative group of earthbound scientists. Perhaps the Space Brothers were deceived by the attractive, similar-looking blonde and blue-eyed mediums of the Vril, who they thought they may have been related to. Or they could have simply lacked the information required to see their channels’ coming evil before sharing their technology.

The history of Adolph Hitler and the Nazis has always included elements of their occult beliefs, but one needs to go back further in time, to the early 20th century, and the mediums associated with the Vril Society. The female mediums, referred to as true “Nordic beauties,” began to channel messages from extraterrestrials whose origin was many light years away. The messages included the technical designs of advanced aircraft unheard of in their day in addition to a kind of “blueprint” for a time machine. Some years later, Hitler himself, along with several of his SS henchmen, came under the influence of the Vril Society as he began his rise to power in a Germany that was sick enough and corrupt enough to be mesmerized by his unchecked anti-Semitism and militaristic obsessions.
When combined with the high caliber of scientists the Nazis “recruited” to design weapons for the war effort, which included now-legendary names like Wernher von Braun and Hermann Oberth, the fact that they had alien “help” along the way makes some of their more exotic advances a little more plausible.
In fact, the scientists themselves talked openly about this alien help.
“We cannot take credit for our record advancements in certain scientific fields alone; we have been helped by the people of other worlds . . . We should think of the craft in the New Mexico desert as more of a time machine than a spacecraft.”
So said Professor Hermann Oberth, one of the early fathers of rocketry and the mentor to the young Wernher von Braun.
Meanwhile, von Braun himself stated in 1959 that: “We find ourselves faced by powers which are far stronger than we had hitherto assumed, and whose base of operations is at present unknown to us. More I cannot say at present. We are now engaged in entering into a closer contact with those powers, and in six or nine months’ time it may be possible to speak with more precision on the matter.”
While neither Oberth nor von Braun specify that they were aided in their efforts by Aryan Space Brothers, they are nevertheless surprisingly candid in what they DID say for public consumption. Their openness may have been part of some larger strategy to steer the belief in UFOs in the direction of the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (or the “ETH” for short) and therefore away from a darker point of origin in the blueprints and designs of the Nazis. In the decades-long campaign of disinformation waged against the truth of the UFO phenomenon, Oberth and von Braun may have simply been firing another salvo of confusion and subterfuge. Or were they being sincere in reflecting on their own invention processes? Was there an undeniable alien presence working alongside them? Like most unanswered questions about the UFO phenomenon, the answers await their time.
IS NAZISM PART OF THE ALIEN ABDUCTION PROGRAM?
Another fascinating thread of the story that Beckley holds fast to is this: In many alien abduction accounts, especially the early stories from the late 1950s and early 1960s, the UFO occupants are said to speak in German and to speak English with unmistakable German accents.
On Oct. 5, 1957, 48-year-old Reinhold Schmidt said he stumbled across a spaceship when his car stalled near the Platte River in Kearney, Neb. Schmidt said he was invited inside to chat with the humanoid occupants – four men and two women, who spoke both English and German.
There is the case of a well-known contactee named Reinhold Schmidt, who encountered an alien ship in Kearney, Nebraska, in 1957. After accepting the flying saucer captain’s invitation to come onboard, Schmidt heard the captain and crew speaking to one another in “High German,” a dialect that Schmidt had been versed in by his parents from his youth up. Apparently unaware that Schmidt could understand them, the beings spoke to him with their Deutsche accents intact and made no effort to disguise their voices.
The 1961 abduction of New Hampshire couple Betty and Barney Hill is much better known than Schmidt’s, but, when studying their case, there is an often overlooked moment when Barney, as he undergoes regressive hypnosis with post-trauma specialist Dr. Benjamin Simon, begins to panic when one of his alien abductors takes on the appearance of a Nazi in full uniform. Was this a glimpse into the aliens’ “true” agenda? As an African-American in the early 1960s, Barney was certainly familiar with the oppressive fears that come from being a victim of racism. Did his unconscious mind somehow conjure the Nazi image as an expression of those fears? Or was it intended as a grim warning of future totalitarian domination?
MORE TROUBLESOME NAZIS “UNDERFOOT”
George Adamski claimed to have met an androgynous, blond-haired, blue-eyed Aryan Space Brother who called himself Orthon in the California desert.
The Nazis also cast a shadow over even the beginnings of the contactee movement in the 1950s. Many people will be familiar with the 1952 meeting between George Adamski and the androgynous, blond-haired, blue-eyed Aryan Space Brother who called himself Orthon. But one may not know that that first contact in the California desert was facilitated by Adamski’s associate, George Hunt Williamson, who worked out the time and location for the landing in the days before it took place by using an Ouija board to communicate with the Space Brothers. Williamson was himself associated with right wing extremist William Dudley Pelley, an American Nazi-sympathizer who had served time in jail for sedition and anti-government rabble-rousing. While Williamson would later disavow that he held any racist beliefs at the time, he did serve in Pelley’s employ writing and editing pro-fascist pamphlets and magazines.

Admittedly, no one wants to give up the utopian hopes that accompany belief in the Space Brothers. But the fact that their physical appearance embodied the ideal of Aryan or Nordic “good looks” is not an easy one to ignore. In the case of the desert encounter between Adamski and Orthon, we have this to consider as well: there exists a line drawing based on a plaster-of-Paris cast, taken at the site of the meeting, of the boot print of Orthon. One can easily discern a pair of swastikas engraved into the sole of the alien’s boot, leading one to consider the possibility that the visiting alien followed “on the heels,” so to speak, of the Nazis defeated some short few years before.
When one combines these seemingly disparate events with one another, they coalesce into a picture of the possible: Aryan aliens who matched their advanced knowledge and technology with willing scientists bent on controlling the world, a kind of fifty-fifty split between extraterrestrial and human efforts that resulted in the flying saucer phenomenon as we know it today.
THE NAZIS GET THEIR “BELL” RUNG
But there is still more. One of the most generally agreed upon historical aspects of the Nazis/UFO theory concerns an aircraft called “Die Glocke,” which is German for “The Bell.” It was believed to be a product of both alien guidance and the work of topflight scientists like the aforementioned von Braun and Oberth.
A mockup of this purported airship has been circulated down through the years and it is indeed a bell-shaped aircraft, although what kind of propulsion system could enable such an ungainly monstrosity to fly at mind-bending speeds remains unknown. The Bell is also said to contain the time travel apparatus that is so essential to the story, but which remains an even deeper mystery than what kind of fuel propelled it through the skies. Some contend that the propulsion system is based either in the long sought after antigravity energy or some manipulation of electronic principles which can be tapped into throughout the universe.

In 1965, in Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, numerous witnesses saw an unknown object crash in the woods outside town. Locals reported that some kind of government/military cleanup crew was on the scene nearly immediately, which indicates that the federal interlopers had been following the craft’s descent on radar. The witnesses say the object was put on the back of a flatbed truck under some kind of tarp covering and hurriedly hauled away. But it was still possible to discern that the clandestine cargo was a large, acorn-shaped object that could easily be said to have resembled the contours of the Nazis’ Bell. In fact, the similarity is so remarkable that one hesitates to conclude that it’s all just a coincidence.
MADNESS OR GENUINE DEMONS?
Mainstream historians today reckon it as Hitler’s madness, but what if at least some of those supernatural forces were real? Did some otherworldly aggregation of spirits make contact with Hitler in order to wreak cruelty and warfare on the world? Was Hitler just another pawn in their game?
“Occult Secrets of the Third Reich” offers an examination of the links between Hitler and the occult in essays from well-known paranormal writers like the aforementioned Tim Beckley, Sean Casteel (myself), Olav Phillips and Teodoro Rampale.
